Is Your Laptop AC Power Adapter Working Properly?
Is Your Laptop AC Power Adapter Working Properly?
Like all other electronic devices, laptop adapters eventually stop working. There are many causes from excessive wire bending, exposure to extreme temperatures, or simply that it’s an aging adapter. Unfortunately there is no definitive amount of time that adapters last. Their lifespan is dependant on how much they’re used. Below we list ways of checking if your adapter has ceased working.

Check Your Laptop
Your laptop adapter may not power your laptop due to a loose connector. Make sure all connectors are inserted correctly. Also, check the adapter box. Laptop adapters often have an LED light that lights up when your adapter is powering your laptop. If this light is off, then your laptop is not receiving any power.
Once you have checked all your adapter’s connectors take a look at the electrical outlet. The problem could simply be that the power socket you’re connected too is no longer working. Change sockets to rule it out.
For laptop DC power adapters check the DC-jack. These adapters must fit snugly. If you have to have your adapter plugged in just the right spot or angle, then your DC-jack may be broken.
Check Your Adapter
A bent cable can be the culprit of a malfunctioning power adapter. Think of this like a garden hose. If you pinch or bend a garden hose while it is running water, the water will not exit the hose. A laptop power adapter works in the same basic way.
Make sure nothing is resting on your power cable such as a book, laptop bag, or anything else that could pinch the adapter cable. If nothing is bending the cable, check the cable itself. The constant bending from storing your adapter could have exposed the wires within the adapter cable. This exposure can cause it to stop functioning properly.
Replacing Your Power Adapter
If you find that your adapter is no longer working, there are a few options for replacing it. The first option is to order the same or a similar compatible adapter. The second option is to order a universal one.
Note: Universal adapters come with multiple tips to fit the different types of laptops on the market. If in the future you choose to purchase a new laptop, a universal laptop AC power adapter may have a tip that will work with your new one. The advantage is that you would have a spare for future use or one to keep at home or in the office, which would make one less thing to carry.

How do I hook up VCR & TV & DVD Player & RF Adapter & cable box?
Here's what I have.
** An older TV with only the coax cable outlet.
** A digital cable box with all the options.
** A DVD player that has the red/yellow/white RCA plugins, and a subwoofer and surround speakers (four, but I'm not using the rear speakers)
** A VCR with only the white and yellow RCA plugins.
** An RF adapter.
What I'm trying to do is get cable to play on the TV...
Be able to watch a video through the VCR...
Watch a DVD on TV (so far I have sound, but no video)...
Use the speakers from the DVD player for the main sound (but that's just icing on the cake if possible)...
Any guidance? I've tried following the directions of the RF adapter and the DVD/CD player, but I'm way confused now. I don't know the order of cable jack -> ?? -?? -??.
Thanks!!!
Alrighty Jim, let's see what we can do here...
Put the RF adapter aside, for we will not need it in the connection setup I am about to recommend. Here are the steps:
1. Connect your cable box's coaxial output to your VCR's coaxial input.
2. Connect your VCR's coaxial output to your TV's single coaxial connection.
3. Connect your DVD player's RCA output (only white and yellow) to your VCR's RCA input (match the white and yellow).
At this point, everything should work fine except for having the speakers hooked up to the DVD player work also for sound while watching cable. For that to work, the DVD player must have RCA (red and white) inputs on the back. If it does, connect a set of RCA audio cables (red and white only) from your cable box's output (red and white only) to the DVD player's input matching the colors.
Everything is connected correctly now. In order to make everything work, know that you may have to press a few extra buttons in some cases. In other words, to watch a DVD, you'll need to have the TV set to either channel 3 or 4 (depends on your VCR's settings) and your VCR must be on an "Aux" channel or "Input" channel - something to that effect. To watch cable, you shouldn't need to turn your VCR on.
One final thing - because your VCR is mono and not stereo, hence having only white and yellow connections as opposed to red, white, and yellow, you'll have to set your DVD player via its settings to mono ONLY if you want to have the sound come out of the TV speakers instead of the speakers hooked up to the DVD player. I don't know if you'll ever want that, but I did want to make that clear so that your sound will work perfectly regardless of your situation.
I hope that was clear, and I hope that helps!
