A harmonic exciter (or 'enhancer') is often applied to a track during the mastering process to help add that final piece of 'sparkle' to a mix. By applying this type of processing, the overall resolution of the music can be artificially increased, resulting in a sonically brighter final product.
The primary function of a harmonic exciter is to restore or replace any frequencies that may have been compromised or left out altogether during the mixing stage. This can often be attributed to other processing which has been applied to the various tracks, consequently dulling many of the transients due to various changes in phase. One way an enhancer can resolve this issue is to realign the phase of the transients, which helps to restore their definition and therefore increases the general clarity of the music.
Another way that exciters can improve the brightness of sound is to introduce reasonably small amounts of harmonic distortion. Particular frequencies can be targeted by adjusting the controls, and the exciter will treat the sound by subjecting it to second and third order harmonic distortion. This distortion is then mixed back in with the original signal, resulting in a much cleaner and brighter sound.
Many modern harmonic exciter plugins are multi band, which allows the user to apply different amounts of enhancement to different frequencies bands. As the aim of an exciter is to artificially increase the brightness of the high frequencies, and the density of the medium to low frequencies, it is important that these can be treated separately. Multi band variants are therefore very flexible in these situations.
It is important to use enhancers diligently, especially if applied across the whole mastering bus. Overuse of this type of processing can often result in a fatiguing and overtly unnatural sound which is unpleasant to the listener.

There are many different ways to go about tuning a guitar, and over time I suggest
that you learn all of them, just so that you are that much more empowered with
guitar knowledge. How to tune a guitar is relatively simple depending on the routecyou take.
Using a piano to tune guitar
The piano method is how I learned to tune my own guitar when I first started, but I
don't recommend this. First of all, you'll need to know how to locate middle E, and second, if you're using a piano - there's a good chance that the piano itself may be out of tune. A keyboard will work best, but again you need to have some prior knowledge of the layout of the keys, and will need to know the names of the strings on your guitar in order to tune them correctly.
Using a tuning fork to tune guitar
You can use a tuning fork, but this takes a little patience and practice, plus the pitches may throw you off guard and lead you down the wrong path if you are just getting started.
Using harmonics to tune guitar
If you are a beginner then you will definitely want to skip this one. This process involves using natural harmonics, but is typically used by more experienced guitar
players to double check themselves. This isn't the most accurate method, because if the strings are kind of old then the harmonics will throw off the pitch.
Using other people to tune your guitar
That one sounds kind of like a joke, but having someone else to tune to can be quite popular. The biggest problem with this is having to rely upon the other guy. Some people are even so sure that they are in tune, but we're trying to rule out the easiest and best method here.
Using a digital tuner to tune your guitar
This is probably the most desirable method, as its easy and takes the guess work out
of. Typically a tuner will have a little needle with a set of numbers. You'll have negative and positive numbers, with a zero in the middle. With each string that you try to tune, you want to get the needle as close to that zero as possible. If its a little off - no big deal, but you just want the needle, or in some cases a green light, to show up.
You can download a tuner like this completely for free on the internet, but there have been rumors that these aren't always the most accurate. Investing a small amount of money can get you a tuner that you and your friends can both use, and in a lot of cases they usually come with certain effect pedal boards, or even amps.

My rear surround speakers do not work. I have a new Sony amp with a Bose Acoustimass 10 speakers.?
I have switched my rear speakers with my front speakers out of the Bose Acoustimass 10 subwoofer. The rear speakers work. I can't get them to work in the channel they are supposed to work on. I have switched out my Sony receiver for a Harmon Kardon amp and they still don't work. Could it be the input that will not signal to a surround sound output? I guess I can change the input to the Acoustimass system on the back of the amp to make sure it isn't the speaker system itself. I can also switch out my CD player (input) with a DVD that is supposed to play surround to see if that is the issue. I at first thought it was my new Sony amp. but since it is behaving the same way with my Harmon Kardon amp. I'm suspicious of what the problem could be. With these new surround amps you can have it set your speakers up by placing a microphone in the listening area. The distance test did not envoke my rear speakers on the test which made me suspicious of my Sony amp. Any ideas?
The rear speakers deliver some dialogue but mostly serve to deliver disscrete sounds and special effects that help expand the sound stage.

This either means that you don't have the module hooked up right or that the source you are playing is not 5.1
