How is the work on Base as a Security Forces member? How is the training?
I'm just trying to get a feel for Security Forces. The hours. How the job is. The benefits. The downsides. How to get in the Law Enforcement portion. Do you get to carry your sidearm with you at all times or is it issued to you when you go on duty? And I assume you keep your badge at all times just like civilian cops.
It's not as glamorous as you think. I was a member of Security Forces. The hours suck. You'll probably work 12 hr shifts. Generally the Law Enforcement side is reserved for NCO ranks. You only carry your weapon while on duty. You are issued your weapon before duty and you turn it in after duty. Your "badge" is a cloth patch on your uniform. The only time you wear a metal badge is in your dress uniform which is not very often.
Chances are you'll spend the first few years on a flight line watching airplanes. Then if you get the great opportunity to move into the Law Enforcement side you will spend all of your time writing tickets and busting drunks. No real action happens on a military base.
If you want to be a police officer then go be a real police officer somewhere, but not in the military!!
