why does my 91 buick skylark loose power and die while driving or stopped at a stop sign?
for about 3 weeks now my 1991 buick skylark has been hard to start in the mornings. then about 2 weeks ago while i was driving down the interstate it started loosing power. if i floored the gas it would sometimes start to acceleorate again or it would just die out. also if i am stopped completely it will die about 95% of the time. i have changed the fuel filter and im supposed to have a brand new fuel pump. also i have put fuel injection cleaner in the tank and still these things happen. can anyone help?????????
I have seen a similar problem on many GM vehicles that use the 125C or 3T40 trans-axle. It appears that your TCC solenoid may be faulty and causing the torque converter to not mechanically uncouple similar to not pushing in the clutch when coming to a light. Also at low speeds it will kill power because it's not allowing the converter to flash or multiply torque.
A good way to verify this is the next time you are coming to a stop, put the car in neutral right before you stop. If the car continues to run, it's the TCC solenoid.
