These devices are limited in features and functionality but offer great flexibility if portability is a requirement such as a short term stay in a property or even your garden shed, where there is no power available. Most self-contained alarm systems are powered by batteries so are great for outdoor use or vehicles such as motor homes or caravans.

I've been away from the US for 5 years now and don't know what my options are to access the internet from my laptop that has a wireless modem. What are the most cost effective/reliable/fast options available? Please help this floundering internet addict! If I can't get a regular daily internet fix, I may go mental. (Does the phrase "go mental" indicate my age?) Questions, questions...
If you are going to be near some "hot spots" on a regular basis you can use Wifi to get your internet fix. Another option is satellite but the cost is higher.
