Today there is a wide range of CD players available for the consumer and choosing the right CD player can feel like an arduous task. Style, quality, design och technical solutions vary greatly between the different players. Some players are portable; others are included in larger sound systems. Some players can only handle one disc at the time; others can easily skip between 50 discs or more. Some CD players are very cheap, others are highly expensive. The list goes on and on. Regardless of which CD player you choose it will however consist of three basic parts that are found in all moderns CD players: a drive motor, a tracking device and a laser and lens system. Another thing that all CD players have in common is that they interpret data that has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on a CD (compact disc).
The drive motor in your CD player is the part that makes the disc spin round and round at a correct pace. The drive motor will gradually adjust the speed, since the correct pace depends on which part of the disc that is currently being interpreted. At some spots, the pace will be no higher than 200 rpm, while at other spots the pace needs to be increased up to 500 rpm. As the disc is rotated round and round by the drive motor, the tracking mechanism will adjust the laser assembly and make it possible for the laser and lens system to focus on the miniscule bumps where data has been stored. The laser is constantly being pushed from the centre and outward over the disc by the tracking mechanism.
The data interpreted by the laser and lens system has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on the surface of the CD. One single bump is very small and no wider than 0.5 microns. The height is greater than 125 nanometres and the length is 0.83 microns or slightly more. All these bumps are very neatly organised at the surface of the CD in the form of a 5 kilometre (3.5 miles) long spiral.
The CD itself is made up by several different layers, including a polycarbonate layer and an aluminium layer. When the laser tries to interpret data that has been stored on the CD, it will first penetrate the polycarbonate layer. The aluminium layer will then reflect the laser beam, and the light alterations will be detected by a special optoelectronic mechanism in the CD player. Since the bumps in which data has been stored reflects light in a different way compared to the areas between the bumps (commonly referred to as "lands"), the CD player can determine exactly which parts of the disc that is made up by bumps and which parts that are not.
If a CD is scratched or injured in any other way, it can be impossible for the CD player to interpret it. Sometimes only a minor part of the data will be skipped, but larger damages can render the entire CD useless. Always store your CD's in a protective casing to decrease the risk of scratches. When you clean your CD's, carefully move your hand from the centre and outwards to the edge rather than just swabbing around. Scratches that occur from a radial movement tend to be less damaging than other scratches.

I first bought some Energizer AA NiMH batteries and they are rate at 2500mAh then I picked up some no brand lime green AA battery that are rated at 2600mAh. The Energizer battery have the freight of a normal AA battery-operated, but the no brand batteries touch much lighter and do not seem to stay charged as long. i got this digital photo keychain past its sell-by date of ebay for my friends birthday and i want to put pictures on it for her, but when i plug it into the computer it won't read it. the keychain is from hong kong so im thinking that maybe it's resembling a different software or something? and it also didn't come with a cd or anything that i can use beside it. and im kinda thinking i need a cd to put the pictures on it right? adjectives it came near was the keychain, a usb connector and directions of how to turn it on. any suggestions on what i might do?

It seems that next to the advancements surrounded by technology, TVs, DVDs, iPods etc. should last a lifetime. Where i can get a HI8 MP 8MM Video Cassette Adapter? I know its resembling a 100 years old but i get rid of my camera and now I cant find an adapter. The adapter is similar to a vhs cassette that goes into a vcr and plays the 8mm cassette. I own video on there that vehicle so much to me and now i cant scrutinize it. My sons first Christmas, Marine Corps graduation, , and things like that. I hold tried Best Buy, Walmart, and right now i am waiting for Sony to carry back to me. Looking for a cheap Old Beetle radio?
I have a 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle, and am looking to get the radio working right again. I tried hooking some speakers that I know work (an old set of Pioneers that I dug out of the basement) up to it, but the radio plays really softly. I just replaced the antenna as well, so I know the radio is the culprit. The car is unrestored, and not in really good shape. It's also not my daily driver, I'm 16 and have my '09 GTI that I drive daily. So I just want a cheap radio that I can bolt into the car and listen to while I cruise. The cheapest I've seen is a radio/cassette player combo at Mid-America Motorworks for $70 or $80, but even that seems like too much for a radio that won't get used much. Any cheaper options out there?
Hmmm, for that old AM radio yer gonna be out a couple hundred, though it does bring up the value a bit. They're so expensive because everyone threw them away and replaced them with a cassette player. My recommendation, keep the AM in there, despite it not working. Mount a regular old car radio that you can get anywhere in either the glove box or under the dash (easy to screw it in, just try to miss the gas tank), hook up the speakers like you would, and there you go. That's what I did in my stock 73 standard, and it works fine. I actually have mine right under the ash tray, in about an inch. I took a couple pieces of steel, bent them to shape, and mounted the radio in. I have wires duct taped on the top of the leg area, I drilled a small hole for the wires over by the fuses, and now the speaker in the dash works. I also put 2 subs that are basically just sitting there in the rear compartment and I have the wires running under the carpet and beside the back seat. It's pretty Home Depot to tell you the truth. I have a couple speakers that I duct taped right in front of the door in the leg area (only problem is that I kick it a lot getting out). I got like 6 speakers in there and only two quarter inch holes drilled for wire access (which can easily be repaired in 5 minutes). Try it, you don't have to customize anything to do it and you can still keep the stock look of the original AM radio.
