The music business has gone digital. Producing music that isn't associated with digital software at some point is now basically unheard of. Digital studios use to be hardware-based, with the software specifically written for that program. Now the majority of software is the equivalent to a digital workstation. The process has gotten much easier.
There are many different types of digital music software that exist. This article is intended to give a basic overview of each type.
A type of software that is used but not so commonly today is known as musical notation software. This type of software replicates the writing of a musical score, but it allows for this to be done on a computer instead of with a pen and paper. Many notation software companies have expanded their software to include much more than just the notation ability, these are full on digital audio workstations now.
Another type of digital software is the digital audio workstation. This type was originally a hardware device, but today a "DAW" is a software program that edits, records, and plays back digital audio. The majority released today have MIDI sequencing, and a huge number of other features that allow for manipulation of digital audio.
Samples are also known as a form of digital audio. Samples are common knowledge to many even outside of music today as they are used all the time in contemporary music production. A sample is basically a short digital piece of music that can be used by whatever software you are using and added into your sequencing. Samples are sometimes a single instrumental sound, or a mix of sounds put together into one sample. In a collection, samples are referred to as sound sets. The act of sampling is taking a portion of a sample from something that already exists (like an already finished song from someone else) and using it in your own musical production.
The last form of digital software generally speaking of-course, is plug-ins. Plug-ins are in summary a small software files that can be used by different digital audio workstation software programs. These allow for better functionality within whatever program you're using, by adding features that weren't originally included in the software of the program. An example of a plug-in is the auto-tune plug-in created to correct pitch on voice.

Transcriber Machine Technology Advances
Before the 1930s and 1940s, physicians either wrote all their medical documentations directly in the chart or dictated in person to secretaries. Shorthand was a skill much more valued for medical secretaries doing medical transcription. Transcribing machines began to be manufactured directly for clerical use, although poor in sound quality and not no easy to use, physicians could use them to dictate their letters, hospital records and any other document at any time anywhere.
Then came the mylar tape machines which started the great explosion in transcriber efficiency. This was a great advantage to the transcriptionist in that the sound quality was much improved.
The standard cassette transcriber was introduced in 1970 and measured about 4 by 2 ½ inches. The main advantages of this transcriber were the fact that the tape was fully contained in a plastic box. Previously MTs had to work directly with feeding tape from one spool to another. Standard cassette tapes were easily produced and took much less room. Fortunately I started transcribing medical dictation using the standard cassette transcriber. I never worked with feeding tape from one spool to another.
The mini cassette was introduced, was much smaller in size than the standard cassette transcriber, measuring about 2 ¼ by 1 ¼ inches. The mini cassette required a very small spool of tape and became popular for portable dictating machines.
The micro cassette measures 2 inches in length and is otherwise unchanged from the original mini design.
Digital dictation is a system that eliminates even mylar recording tape. The result is a system that is without background noise, hiss, or other extraneous sounds found on regular mylar tape.
All the advances in medical transcription equipment help the medical transcriptionist do their medical tasks with much more ease and efficiency.

When replacing one GM factory car stereo with another, can I use original wiring/plugs?
Vehicle is 2004 Pontiac Montana. Still trying to figure out how to get fascia off if anyone can address that. Original stereo is radio/CD, replacement has cassette player in addition. Have been researching the code issues, but mostly want to know if I can handle removing the old one and putting in the new one. Is it just unplugging the old and swapping the new or am I going to have to deal with new wiring harnesses, etc.? Also, is the code tied to the radio or to the vehicle? Don't want to bother getting the code off the old one first if it isn't going to work on the new one anyway. Is there a place to get codes free, or should I pay a website $15.00?
