I experienced 12 years of junior rugby union in the heart of Reds territory during the 1970's and 1980's at club and school (GPS) levels. Ballimore were the halo grounds we kids dreamt of playing on at the end of the season during the finals. I was particularly blessed and had numerous runs onto the concave surface representing the Kenmore Bears Rugby Union Club, as a halfback. Because of these experiences and the dedication of my coach from Under 7 to Under 13, I decided to give something back to the game I loved and coach a junior rugby union team, modelled on how I was coached.

The first year I coached the Under 9 Wests Junior Rugby Union team. Being in control of 15+ Under 9 was an eye opener, particularly for a 24 year old who had no babysitting experience! A well planned session based on my Queensland Rugby coaching manual, "The Game Played in Heaven", which included large varieties of stretches/fitness & skill drills/games/moves..., created an exciting, informative and smooth running session for all. It was a great reward to see the players improving every week, building in confidence and skills. We had a number of losses at the start, however, we came back and beat most of the teams in the second round and found ourselves at the top of the ladder at the end of the year. With great disappointment, my 2 year of coaching the same team, Under 10's now, was cut short with work commitments. Their progress through the first part of the year was admirable. They had become a champion team.

Our Kenmore Bears, back when I was playing, were a champion team too! What qualities do a champion Rugby Union team display? Every training session and every match day my coach and I installed 7 important traits on our team:

1. Go Forward - The aim of the game is to put the ball over the try line. This can only be achieved by going forward. Through the middle is the fastest way!

2. Protect the Ball - You can't go forward and score a try without the ball, nor can the opposition! Secure that ball.

3. Support the Ball Carrier - Give the ball carrier options and don't let him get isolated!

4. Continuity - Continuous/Exciting play is a result of going forward, protecting the ball and supporting the ball carrier!

5. Fair Play - Penalties just gives the ball and territory to the opposition!

6. Versatility - Players given the opportunity to play in numerous positions create a greater scope and skills of the game.

7. Most important, Have Fun!

Good Coaching!

Cheetah Research In The Timbavati Reserve, South Africa

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve (TPNR) comprises 53,392 hectares of private land adjoining the Kruger National Park (KNP) in South Africa.  The Timbavati Reserve was established as a non profit organisation in 1962, and has been dedicated to conservation by maintaining the biodiversity of species which would have continued to exist had man never encountered the land.

There are well over 40 mammal species in the Timbavati Reserve, including the Big Five of Lion, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo and Elephant as well as 360 species of bird life. Other special species include the cheetah and African wild dog.

From the 01 November 2009, over the course of the next year, research is being conducted on the resident cheetah population of the Timbavati Reserve. This research is specifically about the abundance, spatial ecology and genetic diversity of cheetahs in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.

Safari camps, game rangers and guests visiting the Timbavati reserve have been asked to participate in the survey.

The abundance of cheetah's is to be assessed by means of a photographic survey, whereby individual cheetahs will be recognised by their unique spot patterns utilising spot recognition programs. Tented safari camps and lodges in the Timbavati Reserve have been asked to take photographs of cheetahs seen on game drives or walking safaris, and to record their special individual markings, as well as the time, date, location and group composition of the sighting. (The group composition records the total number of cheetahs in the sighting, adult males, adult females and young)

Additional information on the cheetah's behaviour, kills made and interactions with other species also represent critical data that needs to be captured.

The spatial utilisation study involves the GPS (Global positioning system) collaring of at least two cheetahs, which will then be monitored and their movements plotted and analysed.

The third component of the project is to ascertain the genetic variability of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve's cheetah population, which will be done via the collection of scat samples, from which DNA will be extracted and analysed in order to determine genetic diversity of the population

The Timbavati Reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger Park and lies nestled between the Kruger National Park on the east, the Klaserie and Umbabat Private Nature Reserves in the north and the Thornybush Private Nature Reserve in the west. There are no fences between the Timbavati and the Kruger National Park which allows free movement of wildlife between the Reserves. The world-famous Kruger National Park is a conservation area of more than 2,000,000 ha (over 5 million acres).

The cheetah study is important in terms of providing new information regarding cheetahs within the area, as no previous studies have been undertaken on the species within the reserve.  The information and data collected will essentially allow for the effective and informed management of the species, ultimately promoting its conservation.

Cheetah GPS Mirror radar detector?

Does anyone know how good Cheetah GPS Mirror radar detectors are?
i was thinking about buying one does anyone have any experience with this?
Is Cheetah C100 a better one, or delta novius, or another model?

I personally have used a Cheetah GPS Mirror and I currently own a Cheetah GPS C100 (which has the same features as the Mirror but in a different package)

First off it is not a radar detector. It is only a Speed and Red-light camera detector. So it will alert you of speed and red-light cameras. It will not alert you to radar. To get alerted to Radar you will need a radar detector. (Ones to look at would be the Escort 8500 X50, 9500i, 9500xi and/or Valentine One.) One of the features of the Mirror and C100 is they can interface with top level detectors. That way your alerts will come through the Mirror or C100, You can also set a feature for it to mute certain alerts below certain speeds so it will limit your false alerts when driving at a slow speed around parking lots.

If you are in an area with alot of speed and/or red light cameras the Cheetah GPS mirror is the way to go. Though I always recommend people start with a Radar detector then move to something like the Cheetah

I will edit this answer later tonight or you can feel free to email me and I will provide further information...

Here is a video on the youtube page of Speed Cheetah's

Here are two videos of my encounters with red light cameras using my Cheetah C100

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again the Cheetah GPS Mirror and Cheetah C100 Speed Camera Detectors are NOT radar detectors!!! All they do is alert to red light cameras and speed cameras in known locations.

So the cheetah products will NOT alert you if a cop is running radar in your area.
