OEMs sometimes have a way of blurring product differences. When Google chose the Taiwan mobile phone designer and manufacturer HTC to be its OEM hardware and telephony system provider for the Nexus One, every one knew right away that it was the rumored HTC Passion.
Now comes the new HTC Desire, also known as the HTC Bravo and one look betrays it is a morphed Nexus One/HTC Passion minus the trackball but replaced with an optical trackpad and using the Sense UI instead on the same Android 2.1 Éclair OS powered by the same 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon.
Is that good or bad? Anyone who has used a Nexus One would immediately recognize, as we do, that the Desire looks and feels like one. Now that's a good thing, because the Nexus One is really one of the best Android handsets on the planet, correction, one of the best regardless of platform.
But it can be bad for HTC. With all things equal, it's now a case of which Android implementation is better, the one from the maker of Android or the HTC with Sense UI? Not to mention that the Desire has tactile buttons up front while the Nexus is all touch-sensitive so it now becomes a matter of personal preference.
Upscale Features
The new Desire is a quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) EDGE/GPRS phone on 2G and tri band UMTS/3G (900/1700/2100) with HSDPA/HSUPA for fast internet surfing and downloading. There's also WiFi 802.11 for hotspot surfing and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR for wireless high speed data transfers with other Bluetooth devices. Wired data connectivity gets supported by a USB 2.0 port. You also get SatNav functionality with an A-GPS receiver with Digital Compass.
You get a stylishly designed monoblock touchscreen body measuring 119 x 60 x 11.9mm registering a weight of 135g. Compared with the Nexus One, it's 5 grams heavier and 0.4mm thicker. It has the same brilliant 3.7-inch Wide-VGA (480 x 800) AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with multitouch input, 16 million colors, a gravity accelerometer for auto rotate of viewing, a proximity sensor that disables touchscreen sensitivity in a call, and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts display brightness to ambient lighting condition.
Its imaging feature gets a 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p (720 x 480) video recording at 30 fps compared with 20fps on the Nexus. You can geo-tag images with its A-GPS receiver. Multimedia comes with the same media players for popular audio and video codecs, stereo FM radio with RDS, 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth A2DP.
Memory on the HTC Desire comes at 512 MB flash ROM and 576 MB RAM with unlimited phonebook and call record entries. It's expandable to 32 GB with its microSD slot. Battery life is a curiosity as it has a more powerful 1600 mAh Li-Ion battery (1400 mAh on the Nexus) but you get a significantly shorter talk time of 6.6 hours while the Nexus gets 10 hours on the same 2G network.

No official word on its pricing but there are already websites publishing some prices and carrier plans. Expansys and Amazon UK show a ₤440 SIM-free price and Vodafone though the Omio site offers it for free on an 18-month plan using Vodafone with 600 free call minutes and unlimited text for ₤35/month.

oxygen sensor parts department question?
My oxygen sensor is bad on my 2007 Jeep Compass. It was cut don't ask me how. I've been reading up on replacing it and I feel I could do it on my own. Is it better to buy the sensor at the dealership or go to a local parts store? Would the dealership even sell it? Would they have the oem and not the universal one? My jeep is a lease so I'm imagining I should get it at the dealership so they don't and rip me off when I return it. Are all sensors the same or do I have to tell them specifically it's the one on the exhaust manifold? Are all oxygen sensor locations the same. Thanks
My recommendation is to always use oem parts when it comes to engine control components. yes, the dealer will sell you a sensor. The dealer will not sell you an aftermarket universal. They will only have the oem replacement. You should specify which sensor it is. they usually have a specific part number for each sensor due to the location, i.e. harness length, connector. It's not hard to replace assuming it's easy to access. You will more than likely need an Oxygen sensor socket. they sell them at most auto parts stores.
