Here are some more information for Crew Enclosure:

The sailing world is full of terminology and jargon so if you are thinking about taking sailing or yachting up as a sport or just as a weekend hobby with the family it is wise to learn a few of the basic terms before you get started. At least you will have an inkling of what everyone at the sailing club or school are on about and of course it will also help to speed your training by not being so overwhelmed with it all. So if you don't know your bow from your stern or your port from your starboard the following list will point you in the right direction:
- The front of the boat is called the Bow and the back of the boat the Stern.
- The Port side of a boat is on your left as you look forward towards the Bow which leaves the Starboard side on your right.
- The body of the boat is the Hull whilst the Keel is the vertical fin attached to the Hull which gives the boat its stability.
- A Cockpit is where the crew sit/stand to operate the boat with the Tiller which is a stick (or where the Wheel is situated which on a yacht does the same job as the Tiller) used move the Rudder the underwater fin that moves to aid steering.
All straightforward enough so far, let's get a little more technical:
- The Rigging is the adjustable lines and hardware which are used to control and hoist and lower the sails.
- Sheets are the ropes that move the sails in and out whilst the Halyards move them up and down.
- The Mainsail is the larger sail that sits behind the mast.
- The Mainsheet is attached to the Boom which is a pole or Spar which runs along the bottom of a Fore and Aft (front and rear) sail and is used to control the Mainsail.
- A Jib is the sail set between the forward most mast and the Headstay.
- The Headstay is a line of wire or steel rod that supports the mast and adjusts its bend.
- A tack is the way the boat is heading in relation to the wind. Tacking is changing direction from one side of wind to the other--while sailing towards the wind.
This is not a complete list, you will have a lot more terminology to learn, but I hope that it will at least give you an initial insight into finding your way around the boat and to understanding what your new friends are talking about.
