Do I need to buy an antenna signal amplifier to my RCA digital to analog converter?
Because when it's turned off, I can pick up all the local channels just fine, but when I actually turn it on to get what I have through Comcast, it just says "no signal". What do I need to do?
You have apparently purchased a digital to analog converter with "analog pass through," which is common on many models. Those converters simply connect the input to the output when they are turned off. They were useful in the U.S. prior to June 2009 and they're still useful in Canada in order to get the over-the-air (OTA) analog channels that were or are still on the air.
But that box has no application with Comcast. It's meant solely for OTA, not cable. The reason you're seeing channels with it turned off its because of its analog pass through feature. When you turn it on, it's looking for OTA digital channels, not digital cable channels.
To get any digital channels from Comcast you need at least their DTA box (see the reference below), or a digital receiver or DVR and a subscription to a digital channel package.
