Following the steps below you too can create your own station on the net :
A. Downloading the main softs
1. The first thing you have to do is to download Nullsoft's audio player, Winamp. In order to broadcast you must have Winamp installed, it's the main tool, without it you cannot do anything.
2. The second thing is to download SHOUTcast server
3. Last but not least, download the SHOUTcast plug-in.
B. Configuration
Before broadcasting you have to do some settings:
Enter the folder where you've installed SHOUTcast server and open sc_serv.exe. Double click on it. A window will appear on your screen. In the toolbar select the Edit Config tab.
It will appear a text document. In this document try to find the line with the following particle: Password=Change the password after the "=" sign with any password you want.S ave all the modifications brought to the document by choosing from toolbar File - Save.
Now you're again in the sc_serv.exe window. You are anounced that restart the application that changes to take effect ( press OK and from the sc_serv.exe window choose kill Server.
Open again the sc_serv.exe appilcation and let it to run in the background.
Now it's time to configure Winamp in order to broadcast on the net...
First of all open Winamp ( go to Options - Preferences). The preferences window will appear. Select from the down, left side the DSP/effects category, then select Nullsoft SHOUTcast Source DSP,after which press the Configure active plug-in button. In the window that will appear select the Encoder option and make the following changes:
1. In the encoders list choose Encoder2.
2. At Encoder Type choose Mp3 Encoder.
3. At Encoder Settings choose your connection type.
4. Now click Output and choose from that list Output2.
5. Click on the Connection button and at Password put the password that you've putted in the text document earlier.
6. At the Encoder option choose 2.
7. Now click on the Yellowpages button and mark the Make this server public option.
8. At Description put the name of your desired radio station (ex. Total ICE FM).,then mark the Enable TitleUpdates option.
9. Press the CONNECT button. From this very moment you are broadcasting on the net.Have fun!
IMPORTANT:If somebody wants to connect to your station you must know your IP Address (for example: [http://123.123.123.123:8000] and that person must open Winamp - Add - Add URL - OK.
The general form is: http:// your IP Address:8000

DSP and Software Defined Radio (sdr)
Oftelsat, a leader in the pioneering of Software Defined Radio (SDR), is working together with other vendors in the United States, building the Software Designed Radio SDR1000. With SDR, computer hardware can be used as radio hardware. The SDR uses software digital signal processing, which will in the future be part of Wifi and wiMAX devices. Oftelsat acknowledges that such expertise and knowledge is not widespread and a lot of work needs to be done. People with experience in Digital Signal processing (DSP) and/or DSP programming tools (digital signal generation, filtering and demodulation of complex waveforms) as well as people with organizational and communication skills are being sought to enter the arena of this new SDR innovation. Even though tools for digital signal processing are very expensive and the companies which focus on DSP development are rare, once the SDR proves to be workable there's no debate about how such a tool could help in building connectivity.
Oftelsat is building a device using short-wave (30 Mhz) multi-slotted radio systems. The radios work with digital signal processing and advanced serial modulation using soundcards, up to 128 kbs per channel over Near Vertical Incident Skywave (NVIS) . Wifi is used for space division between short-wave nodes. The device will be intelligent, meaning that it chooses the best frequencies and, using load balancing, route via the nodes with the best propagation. For the node operators this process is automatic and transparent.
We took up the plan to develop a tactical short-wave radio system for rural and remote areas, capable delivering 64 Kbsec over distances, more than 500 km as an addition to Wifi/Wimax possibilities which end at 50 km.

I am a fresh graduate with MSc in Electronics. I am looking forward to specialize in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) in the future. But for the current state, I am given a chance to work as a Radio Frequency Engineer. I am really worry if taking this position will affect my future in pursuing DSP Engineer career, especially if i'm intend to work outside my own country.
Often, a hiring company will listen to the applicant's objective as they have explained it on their resume. So you have to show your interest in specializing in Digital Signal Processing. They will consider your salary, reason for leaving, and references from your previous employment, but the type of job you worked should not affect their decision.
