Upgrading '01 Ford Rngr Stock Audio. Bought Pioneer hu & Infinity 6x8. Good idea or bad idea?
Trying to get better sound in my truck. Bought pioneer deh-p3900mp hu and pair of infinity kappa 682.7cf 6x8. Do you think that: 1- these were a good purchase for quality audio at affordable price? 2 - these would complement each other?
Also i'm thinking of getting some 6.5" for front doors and adding 10" sub. Any good ideas for stores/brands/amps/wiring?
You are on your way to a good sounding system. I have a 1998 Ranger and I have a Kenwood eXcelon hu and I opted not to go with the 5x7 / 6x8 speakers in my doors. I wernt with the JL Audio XR series 6.5 inch components in the front and the XR coaxials in the rear. I pulled the factory 5x7's out and put the 6.5's in the middle of the hole and put dynamat on either side of the speaker to fill in the oval hole. I mounted my tweeters on the outside of the door panel where the little triangle is by the side view mirror. They sound great.
But in your case, anything will sound better then the stock set up. 1 thing you might want to think about, if you are going to be adding a sub or multiple subs, you will be amping them, and since the Ranger isn't a very big cab, you will prob have to amp the 4 speakers, so they don't get overpowered by the sub(s). Will those 6x8's sound good amped? When you bought them, were they on a display board so you could hear them? See what they sould like amped. If they start to break up / cracle, then don't use them.
