Before you hook-up your boat this spring and head out fishing here's some tips to help make sure your first fishing trip doesn't have any major surprises.
Electrical Checks:
1) Check battery water level - use only distilled water when adding to battery.
2) Check terminals for corrosion and clean if necessary.
3) After cleaning a light coat of grease will prevent further corrosion.
4) Charge batteries.
5) Tape spare fuses to top of battery box covers.
Verify Required And Recommended Equipment On Board:
1) Boat registration papers need to be on board. I keep mine in a zip-loc bag in the battery box.
2) Verify horn on boat works or sound signaling device on board.
3) Verify if adequate amount of Pfds and at least one throw able pfd are present.
4) Check fire extinguishers and replace or recharge if necessary if 100% full.
5) Check navigation lights if present, both front and back..
6) Check bilge pump and clean if necessary. Only a hum should be heard when on, not a high pitched screaming noise.
Boat Trailer:
1) Check wheel bearings and adjust if necessary. You will have to use a jack to take the weight of each wheel to do this. Only a couple degrees of vertical movement should exits.
2) Grease wheel bearings. If Buddy bearings are present use caution not to over grease as this will damage the rear seal.
3) Inspect winch strap/rope for any damage and replace if necessary. Also verify trailer tie downs in rear of trailer are in good condition.
Outboard And Fuel System:
1) Inspect fuel lines for softness, brittleness or cracking. Fuel lines that leak or can't pull enough fuel to a carburetor can ruin a two stroke a outboard.
2) While squeezing the priming bulb very hard while inspect the fuel line and connectors for fuel leaks. You can also remove the hood of the motor and inspect further. Remember that a slow leak can let air into the fuel system and cause hard starting and further damage to two-stroke motors.
3) Change grease in lower unit of outboard and make sure very little water exist or that grease is not milky. If more than a tablespoon of water is present bring boat to a dealer for repair.
4) If possible run your motor before heading out. Give it a few minutes to warm and then run up and down in gear with the boat on the trailer. This will avoid a possible embarrassing event of rowing back into shore.

Yeah ya see, Sounds like you may have blown the fusible link. In effect it is a big fuse somewhere off the positive cable... Just check the owners manual for it's location...
