Here are some more information for Ground Wire:

A lot of older homes have light fixtures that must be switched on by means of a pull chord or pull chain hanging from the light fixture itself. Because the light fixture is normally in the middle of the room it can be really inconvenient having to walk into the middle of a dark room to pull the chain to turn the light on.
Installing a switch leg for a light fixture is a medium DIY job that can be carried out by a homeowner with a few simple tools, a little knowledge and some caution.
Follow this procedure and you will install a switch leg with ease. Installation time should be 3 to 4 hours.
Prep:
Mark the wall for the switch position.
Identify the fuse or circuit breaker for the light.
Set up an extension light if necessary.
Gather the required tools. You will need a hammer, screwdriver, keyhole saw and a snake.
Gather the required stock. You will need an old work box, a switch and cover plate, madison bars, a piece of 14/2 romex, some wire nuts, electrical tape and touch up plaster.
Method:
In residential construction the joists normally run from side to side in the home spaced on 16 inch centers.
The strapping will run from front to back in the house again spaced at 16 inch centers.
This ensures that you will have bays to snake your wires in.
Place a drop cloth on the floor covering the work area.
1. Remove the light fixture and if there is a box take out a knockout facing in the direction where the switch is to be placed.
2. Remember that if the switch is not in line with the light fixture you will have to make a hole or two in the ceiling to facilitate snaking because you cannot snake diagonally,
3. Run the snake from hole to hole in the ceiling drawing the 14.2 romex into the ceiling from the light to the wall just above the switch.
4. You will need to make a small cut in the ceiling and wall above the switch position so that the wire can bypass the wall header.
5. Snake the wire down the wall into the hole that you have pre cut for the old work box. If you are working with lathe and plaster it is a good idea to place your old work box so that you cut out one entire piece of lathe and a small piece of the laths at the top and bottom of the old work box. You can fix the box with Madison bars or sheet rock screws. After marking the box chip the plaster away to expose the lathe and cut the lathe neatly with the keyhole saw, holding the lathe in place so as not to make a large hole in unstable plaster.
6. Tighten the clamp in the old work box and remove the unused clamp and use the screw from it to attach the ground wire.
7. Put the white and black wires onto the switch screws, tighten and install and place cover plate on. It is better to use the screw terminals rather than the stab connections.
8. Identify the hot wire at the light fixture and open the wire nut joining it to the fixture.
9. Using wire nuts join the white wire from the romex to the hot wire at the fixture; join the black wire from the romex to the fixture wire.
10. Make sure that you connect the ground wire to the ground at the light fixture.
11. Re fix the fixture to the ceiling.
12. Make any holes in the plaster good with patch such as spackle or plaster of paris
13. Turn the power on and test the switch.

How to Wire a Hanging or Sconce Light Fixture
Copyright (c) 2009 Julia Ritzenthaler
Adding a new light fixture to your home can add a great amount of freshness and style. This is a great DIY project, but it requires that you do a little homework first. Do some reading, find a friend to help and you're ready to go.
First line up all the tools and parts needed for the wiring project. Lay everything out in the order they will be used; an organized workspace helps with a smooth workflow. In addition to the items that come with the fixture, you will need a ladder, a small saw, some pliers, an assortment of screwdrivers, electrical tape, putty, a drill and drill bits, and wire strippers. Next—and this is probably the most important step of all—turn off the power at both the switch and the circuit breaker.
If you are hanging your light fixture from the ceiling but do not have a ceiling outlet box, you will have to install one. Clearly mark the spot where the fixture will go for installation. Cut a hole in the ceiling according to the exact size of the box and feed the hanger bar into the hole up inside the attic and rest it flat on the ceiling and twist the bar to expand it into the studs. Connect the feed cable to the ceiling box and clamp the electrical wire down with a cable clamp. Finally attach the ceiling box and the wire to the hanger bar, connect to a power source and you're ready to wire the fixture. You will need to fish a wire from the attic space to the outlet box. Begin by drilling a hole; then fish the wire from the attic through the wall cavity to the switch box. You can purchase cable fishing tape at your local hardware store; they will greatly aid you in this process.
There are many different kinds of outlet boxes and mounting devices available depending on the kind of light fixture you're working with. Speak to the customer service representative at the hardware store if you're not sure about which one to get.
Once you've run the wire to your light box, it's time to wire the light fixture, do another check to make sure the power is turned off at the circuit breaker before handling the wiring. There will be a black and white wire hanging out of the hole in the ceiling box or the wall. Use wire strippers to cut about half an inch of the insulation off both wires to expose the copper underneath. Affix the mounting bracket for the light fixture. The black wire in the light fixture should be connected to the black wire in the electrical box. Connect the two corresponding white wires in the same way.
The bare copper wire you see in the box is the ground wire. This one usually connects to a green screw. Do not remove the insulation. This is what keeps the heat from the bulb from over heating the wires inside. Next, fit the fixture over the mounting bolts. The finish trim screws go in last, but not too tightly because doing so might crack the glass.
Some other things to consider when wiring a light fixture include the kind of light fixture: fluorescent light bars, chandeliers, or a simple bulb with a lampshade covering it. You also need to plan the route of the wiring. If you want something like having one switch turn on two or three lights or an additional outlet, this can be done, be sure to follow the instructions closely and properly. If this is too advanced for you, it might be time to hire a professional electrician.
If you follow the instructions closely and make sure the power source is switched off while you work, this is a very doable DIY project. Remember, safety is the number one priority. Please hire a professional electrician if this project seems out of your reach.

Does the ground wire have to connected to the motor?
Does the ground wire have to be connected to the motor or can i ground it to the frame? It's a 1997 Chevy Blazer.
You need the ground cable connected to both the engine block and frame. For your engine needs the largest ground for the starter to work properly. Then your frame needs one for all of your lights relays and motors. So you need good grounds to both.
