Here are some more information for High Resolution:

Liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) Technology is a hybrid technology which is typically being applied in projection televisions nowadays; it is a type of micro-projection or micro-display in the hyper clear screens which has been followed up in the LCD era. The problem with CRT which most of us are familiar with is that it shows a clear picture only as long as they get a clear signal, also their performance is limited by the screen sizes. It works well only till 40 inches after which various other recent technologies like digital light processing (DLP), liquid crystal display (LCD) and liquid crystal over silicon (LCOS) take over.
Pretty much similar to the traditional DLP projectors, LCOS is basically a reflective technology; however, here liquid crystals are used in place of the individual mirrors. If analyzed comparatively, LCD projectors use transmissive LCD chip which allows light to pass from the liquid crystal display. In LCOS, a silicon chip which is initially coated with aluminized layer along with few type of passivity layer which is also highly reflective in nature are applied in conjugation with liquid crystals.
Traditionally, a liquid crystal is sandwiched between two glass plates to make a LCD device. Virtually all Liquid Crystal Displays which are sold today are made in the same manner. They are also placed between crossed polarizer for direct viewing.
However, display fabrication becomes an issue when higher resolution is needed in faster computers, since thin film transistor (TFT) technology is generally used in making high resolution displays which involves patterning of pile of material layer on a single piece of glass along with thousands of transistors which becomes very expensive in the end, making the technology unpractical for the commercial production.
This is where LCOS technology comes into picture, as an alternative method to create high-resolution images with liquid crystals which involves the use of Liquid Crystal on Silicon technology. LCOS uses a single glass substrate which is polished with silicon for the rear end of the display. The silicon technology today is advanced to a point that embedding and modeling millions of pixels is done on a very small area say an inch or two. Thereafter a coat of reflective aluminum layer is applied over the pixel along with polyimide alignment layer. Thus, the liquid crystal on silicon technology (LCOS) allows high resolution micro display inexpensive for the commercial production and at the same time easy to fabricate for the manufacturers worldwide.
Now, it is well known that LCOS technology can typically produce higher resolution and higher contrast pictures than the traditional liquid crystal displays and plasma displays which make it less expensive to implement in devices such as televisions.
In the year 2004, at a major technological gathering at United Kingdom, many silicon chip giants rolled out the plans for the large scale production of inexpensive LCOS chips for use in flat panel displays, which will revolutionize the TV viewing experience of the common man at a much lower cost.
As of now, when compared to LCD and DLP systems, in terms of price and performance LCOS technology is not only fairly competitive but many at times advantageous also like excellent color reproduction, amazing contrast ratios, High resolutions, No "screen door" effect and No screen burn-in issues as compared to LCD. Pixels in LCOS Screens can be made much smaller than what is possible with most other micro projection technologies and at the same time not compromising the picture quality and the maneuverability. LCOS displays can be scaled to a very high resolution like 1920x1080 and 1600x1200 and more, without increasing the size and cost of the flat screen device.

How do I transform high resolution images to low resolution on a cd for people?
I would like to start a photography business and one service I would like to offer is having the images on a cd but I would like to make them low resolution for 4 x 6 prints. I would like to keep the high resolution so they can order bigger prints through me. How do I go about saving the high resolution images onto a cd as low resolution. What software might be needed? Note...I have an IMac. Thank you for your advice.
Probably not a good idea since you would need to supply 300ppi images for the 4x6 and they could be printed larger at a lower resolution with low but acceptable quality.
I'm not sure why you would want to do that, but maybe an online service like this http://www.backprint.com/services.asp would work better for you.
You could give your customers a CD of proofs with low (72ppi or less) images for viewing on computer only. Those should have a watermark because they can be used online.
Here is a link to software http://macapper.com/2007/12/17/freeware-pic-resize-em-all/ . You should research image editing/manipulation software.
