How big is the difference if you have one twelve inch speaker and you add another?
I have had multiple systems and i am planning on getting two twelves soon. but i was told that there is no point in having two because the second one only adds a little bit more bass. i've had 2 twelves before and been happy with the sound but i would like to know just how much of a difference there is if you have one or two.
I would say what you were told was basically accurate.
It depends on power as well as the number of subs.
Theoretically you get a 3dB gain when you double cone area (go from one sub to 2 subs).
You would also get a 3dB gain if you will be doubling the power as well.
For example - one sub getting 300w to two subs getting 300w each.
1dB is typically the minimum change in SPL that we can detect. 2 db would be fairly obvious. 3dB would be easily noticeable, but it wouldn't be drastic.
It takes a 10dB increase in SPL to be audibly twice as loud.
