I am having trouble with my 1993 ford explorer...?
I am trying to install a new cd headunit (replacing the stock cassette unit) the problem is, is that for some reason when we connect the correct (we are pretty sure they are right) harnesses together the cd player wont get power.... we tested the wires and they all give out power and the cd player brand new out of the box... i will also include that the audio system is JBL (that is what i was told that came stock in a 93 4WD Explorer XLT) please help me i am getting very frusturated.
i dont have the wire diagram for the car
don't give up yet i own a repair shop,,and have done a few of these,,first off I'm going to take a guess and say you got an adapter harness for it,,there is one of the wires on the harness,,and this is,on all the harnesses i have seen that is out of place,,it seems that ford did not supply the right info,,or someone that designed these change over harnesses,,did not check the exact power supply for the explore,,what i do when i run across one of these id go by the wiring layout on the explorer,,first,,then look at the new stereo you bought it too came with a sticker on it that tells the wiring diagram,,now cross reference this with the ford diagram,,and you will find 2 wires out of place,,if you was to be one if the lucky ones that the wire is in the right place,,then you may have gotten a hold of a bad unit,,also make very sure that the in-line fuse for the new unit has not blown ,,this can easily happen when your hooking one up,you said you had power on the harness from the vehicle,,so the problem exist in the the wiring diagram in the radio,,you will have to use the radio diagram,,to match the vehicle diagram,,once these match up,,you will get power to the radio,,it may sound complicated,,but it isn't,,good luck with it,,remember,,take your time,,you will get it straitened out,,i hope this help,s.
