The second most important component of a good home theater set-up is its loudspeakers. You simply cannot achieve that authentic theater atmosphere, if you do not have good speakers. It goes without saying too, that the amplifier and player must be just as good, because any system is only as good as its weakest part.
However, if you do it right, you can easily recreate the sound quality achieved in a full size movie theater. Regrettably though, many people seem to get baffled about which speakers they should have, when they go to buy for their home theater in order to create real surround sound.
The minimum requirements for a good set of surround sound speakers are a left and right channel speaker, a centre channel speaker and a sub-woofer. The following are the basic speakers that are necessary to complete a good home theater: front left and right speakers, a centre channel speaker, surround sound speakers. Often people try to do without the centre channel speaker, but this speaker supplies a good proportion of the soundtrack in many movies as well as adding depth to the dialogue.
The surround sound makes the film sound more realistic. It is what makes the difference between watching TV at home and going to the movie theater. The option of having this at home has only recently become reasonably priced. The most common systems are: 5.1 channel, 6.1 channel, or 7.1 channel surround sound. The first figure refers to the number of normal loud speakers and the second one to the number of sub-woofers. The number of speakers that is the best for you, depends on the size and shape of the room you are using. The more is not always the merrier.
The sub-woofer is the cause of the deep bass sound that underlies so many movie soundtracks and these are the sounds that are responsible for heightening the drama in a film. A good sub-woofer is an vital part of your home theater speaker package, if you do not have one, you will miss out on this.
There are many makes on the market and some are cheaper than others, but it is important that you pick speakers that will work well together. They have to be compatible. If you do not know how to make certain that they are, the best choice for this is to buy all your speakers together in one package by one maker. It may be tempting to save money by mixing and trying to match speakers, but if you get it wrong, you will not create the true quality of sound you are hoping to achieve in your home theater.
Some speakers are made to place on the floor and others are made to hang on the wall. Floor standing speakers are the best for home theater, but they also take up the most space and can have wires running everywhere. If this is not a problem to you, then fine, but if it is, you can solve it by purchasing wireless speakers.

Panasonic G10 Great TV, exceeds expectations
Initially there was an LG 48 “LCD from Costco for $ 999, but when it is installed in my room, I realized its shortcomings … The picture is clear, even with the brightness of the lamp rejected (so as people, but it is not a “real” image). almost grainy images and a low refresh rate (60 MHz), the fast-moving images (mainly sports) see blurred.
After much research I went for the new 2009 Panasonic G10 48 “plasma Amazon. I paid $ 1,319 for her and at that time was the lowest price at any time, even foreigners, who are always reluctant to buy.
TV delivered in 3 days, and stay on a piece of cake. The image to the right of the box (standard factory), and with some adjustments using the “advanced” control, quickly found the perfect image for me. The photos are very strong, but still warm, the colors are rich and deep. Black is black as possible, and there is a configuration that allows you to check this on your taste. Pictures Update 600 MHz (10x LCD refresh) to see the sport is pure joy. The controls are a simple menu of options.
There Valkyrie in BluRay (via my Sony Vaio laptop computer) and was swept away by the quality of 1080p. I can not imagine how it will be a real Blu Ray, which plans to add soon.
The only irritant is rather metallic sound coming from your speakers, but I add an AV receiver and surround outside soon, is not really a problem for me. I love my audio Eqpt top so that it can be a little ‘too hard, the G-10, audio quality, but I think it is OK to watch TV in general, every day.
In general, said the G-10 is a great TV and I recommend it to anyone. [...] If you do not spend a penny more for the more expensive Sony, etc, I always preferred the plasma, and this is my second Panasonic plasma (the other is my Harmon Kardon speakers with a JBL amplifier and a tower). Great TV … go ahead, it will not be disappointed.

DIGITAL OUTPUT QUESTiON?
On my Compaq desktop there is a digital output and i have a harman/kardon AVR146 and i was wondering what cable i would need to connect the computer to the Receiver.

This is a s/pdif or digital audio out. If it looks like an RCA plug, you need a coax digital audio cable.
