The Upper Mississippi River offers both puddle duck hunters and diver duck hunters thousands of acres of quality duck hunting in a wide variety of situations. Depending on water levels hunters can find marsh settings in secluded back waters, flooded timber during high waters, typical river hunting settings in countless running sloughs, or reservoir style hunting in large lake styled back waters. After hunting the upper sections of the river now for over 15 years I can say the river offers a true smorgasbord of ducks to hunt and later enjoy at the supper table.
Becoming familiar with the section of river you plan to hunt is a must, both with maps and then by actual scouting as thousands of acres are available from each every boat launch. Before venturing out in the dark I would highly recommend a few scouting trips during the day saving a trail with a GPS unit. In the early fall fog is often a problem on early in the day on colder mornings when the water is still warm. Heading out in the thick fog is certainly not a good idea and I would strongly advise against this, even with a GPS unit.
Puddle ducks are my favorite pursuit when hunting the river and mallards, pintails, teal, shovelers, wood ducks, and widgeon are all plentiful. While thousands of ducks are using any one given pool on the Mississippi River coming home with a limit is not a sure thing. Because the river is so large the ducks have a countless acres to habitat to choose from. Scouting the river is also not real easy a boat must be launched versus scouting from shore. Most sections of the river have countless islands with trees that block your view so a motoring around is necessary to view the countless of back water sloughs and lakes.
But hard work scouting can certainly pay off. Over the years I have enjoyed many successful duck hunts with my son and friends. Whether it's the early season or hunting major cold fronts and snow storms later in the season I have accumulated many memories of over the years.
Choosing the right boat to bring to the Mississippi River for duck hunting is a hard choice to make. To safely navigate most sections of the river during good weather conditions at minimum a 16 foot boat with a 25hp outboard is needed. A larger motor is even better as you may need to travel up to 6 to 8 miles from the boat ramp to your hunting location. Although many duck hunters will want a blind boat they can hunt out of it can be very difficult to conceal a bigger boat on the river. In most situations I rely on my boat for transportation purposes only and then hunt from natural vegetation.
Hunting the Upper Mississippi River can be a great experience as long as you do your home work first and always think safety. Also be aware that there are no entry refuge zones on the Mississippi River. These areas are marked on maps available from the USFWS along with signs on the water.

STEP 1 – CLEANSE SKIN
Prior to applying the Toner and Creme, thoroughly cleanse your skin using Aloe Activator (sold separately). It gently removes soap and other residues, leaving a layer of Aloe Vera on your skin.
STEP 2 – MARK AND MEASURE
Take two sets of measurements to record your progress – one prior to and one following the toning process. Using a felt-tip pen and a tape measure, mark your upper arm, torso and thigh in three places each. Add the inches of all measurements for your reference total.
STEP 3 – APPLY ALOE BODY TONER
Prior to a total application of the Aloe Body Toner, always test on a small area of skin for allergic reactions. The Aloe Body Toner’s warming and
stimulating effect on the skin is proportional to the amount you use: the more you apply, the more heat that is generated. Smooth it liberally over the areas you wish to tone. Do not apply Toner to irritated or newly shaved
skin or immediately after bathing. Do not apply to the breasts, face, genital areas or mucous membranes. Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of skin irritation or reaction, rinse liberally with warm water. Wash your hands immediately following application, close lid tightly and keep out of
the reach of children.
STEP 4 – WRAP WITH PLASTIC
(This step is optional.) Loosely wrap the film around the skin, always in an upward motion towards the heart. (For legs: from the inside, forward and out. For arms: from the outside, forward and in.) Once fully covered, a second application is required. Apply it slightly snugger, by stretching and twisting the film. If it feels too tight, or causes a tingling sensation, use
blunt-tipped scissors to remove the film. Leave the wrap in place for one hour, and sit in a relaxed position with your feet elevated. Watch television or read a book. Do not engage in any strenuous activity or fall asleep.
After an hour, cut away and discard the film. Measure the same areas as before, and subtract the total from the original total. This difference represents your overall inch loss. Massage in any remaining Toner left on the skin, allowing it to penetrate for several hours. DO NOT bathe or shower for four hours after the toning process, as pores are open and water can be absorbed into the skin.
STEP 5 – APPLY ALOE BODY CONDITIONING CREME
Prior to a total application of Aloe Body Conditioning Creme, always test a small area of the skin for allergic reactions. Apply Creme directly to the skin on areas not wrapped during the toning process, or use on all areas as a maintenance cream when no wrapping is involved. The Aloe Body
Conditioning Creme helps to stimulate circulation, breaking up trapped fluids and fatty tissues. . Do not apply Creme to irritated or newly shaved skin or immediately after bathing. Do not apply to the breasts, face,
genital areas or mucous membranes. Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of skin irritation or reaction, rinse liberally with warm water. Wash your hands immediately following application, close lid tightly and keep out of
the reach of children.
GENERAL NOTES:
The wrapping procedure should be followed according to your desire to tighten up or slim down. There will be a less visible effect on those with long-term fatness, as fatty deposits turn hard once stored under the skin for a while. Regular exercise and proper diet will be needed for a long-term benefit to be gained.
Those with firm muscle tone will also see less
benefit from body wrapping. Those who have gained weight over a short
period of time or who have loose muscle tone, are most likely to benefit from this process. The wrapping procedure can safely be applied
