1970s

Did you know- Most of the world did not know of The Gambia until 1977. The tiny African country of The Gambia became the focus of international attention when it provided the setting for the 1977 TV series "Roots", which is the third most-watched television program of all time, after "M*A*S*H" and "Dallas".

Geography

Did you know- The Gambia is a nation, with luxuriant tropical forests and large fertile valleys, on the Coast of West Africa. It is one of the smallest nations on the globe. Curiously, The Gambia is the only former British colony in the world that is completely surrounded by an ex French colony (Senegal).

Banjul

Did you know- The capital city is Banjul, which has been a hub of commercial activity since independence from the United Kingdom in 1965. In the past centuries, Banjul was one of the first towns to be built in West Africa. Apart from Banjul, there are, of course, other important cities: Serukunda, Brikama, Bakau, and Farafenni.

James Island

Did you know- The country boasts a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site in sub-Saharan Africa: James Island and Related Sites. Without a doubt, each place is an open door to the past, from where thousands of slaves were sent to the United States, South America, and the Caribbean. This World Heritage Site, on the Gambia River, is a legacy of a long history of relations between Africa and three European countries (Portugal, United Kingdom, and France), from pre-slavery periods to the new republic of The Gambia, one of the last black states on the Planet. In fact, this site has become the country's most popular tourist destination.

Wild Birds

Did you know- The rainforests, over 28% of the nation's territory, provide habitat to a host of birds -whose population is one of the most abundant in West Africa-- such as storm-petrels, pelicans, cormorants, hamerkops, and storks.

Multi-sport Events

Did you know- At least three national athletes (in two sports) took part in the Summer Olympics in August 2008. In the mid-1960s it gained its independence, but it did not begin to compete in the Olympics until 1984. In addition to these Games, it competes in the Commonwealth Games, African Games, and the World University Games.

Gambia & the United States

Did you know- America's novelist Alex Haley had visited Juffure, The Gambia.

Lost City of Stone

Did you know- Apart from James Island, The Gambia also has other historic site: "Stone Circles of Senegambia". Since then, it is an ancient wonder where the past is always present. Located along the Gambia River, this site, which gathers four groups of stones (Kerbatch, Sine Ngayene, Wanar and Wassu), is one of the new wonders of Africa. Astonishingly, it is estimated to contain a total of over 1,000 blocks of stone. Long unknown in the United States, these monuments, an "amazing work of art" in West Africa, were built from 3rd century BC to 16th century AD; the most artistically brilliant periods in the history of The Gambia. This massive area of stones was named World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2006. Without a doubt, this area preserves the native culture.

Famous Persons

Did you know- Walli N'Dow was Secretary General of the United Nations on Human Settlements.

Soccer

Did you know- In the year 2009, The Gambia set an example for several nations in the Third World. Despite having one of the worst sports systems in Africa, it won the FIFA U-17 African Cup and competed for the World Championships ( where they finished 11th,ahead of Japan and Costa Rica). The African champions were: Kemo Fatty, Ebrima Saho, Baka Ceesay, Buba Sama, Saikou Jawneh, Omar Bojang, Bubba Jallow, Ismaila Suwaneh, Ebrima Bojang, Osman Darboe, Lamin Sanjo Samathe, Dawda Ceesay, Lamin Samateh, Pateh Nyang, Baboucarr Savage, Demba Janneth, Sanusi Jabbi, Bakary Sanyang, Darbo, Kissima Bojang, and Lamin Gibba.

Tourism

Did you know- Tourism is growing rapidly. Since the early 2000s, the nation is one of the most popular tourist stops in West Africa. Why? There is a world of great things to see and do in The Gambia. This vibrant African nation is well-known for its magnificent beaches, rich biodiversity, exotic cuisine, colonial architecture, luxury resorts, history, friendly people, of course, and traditions. At the same time, it is one of the most stable nations. Fewer than 100,000 tourists, on average, annually visit this tiny paradise with 85% of those from Europe, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. Tourism is the second economic mainstay.

Famous visitors

Did you know- This English-speaking -about the size of Connecticut -- was visited by Pope John Paul II in the early 1990s.

Ancient History

Did you know- Present-day Gambia has its roots in the ancient Empire of Mali, one of the Continent's most powerful kingdoms, in the 14th century. By that time, it was the natural corridor between Mali and the Atlantic Ocean. It was an European colony from 15th century to 1965, when it became an independent nation.

Foreign Relations

Did you know- During Cold War, for over 24 years, the country's government had supported the Anti-apartheid movement, along with Uganda, Guyana, India and a host of other Third World states. Since then, it refused recognition of Pretoria. By the mid-1970s, The Gambia withdrew from the XXI Montreal Summer Olympics because the national rugby team of New Zealand, a member Olympic, had visited South Africa, an international pariah between 1960 and 1991. In the subsequent decade, it also boycotted other multi-sport event: the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh (Scotland), alongside other national teams such as Kenya, Jamaica, and The Bahamas.

Authors

Did you know- Lenrie Peters is the nation's most respected writer.

Alejandro Guevara Onofre: Freelance writer. Alejandro is of Italian, African and Peruvian ancestry. He has published a host of articles on world issues, Olympic sports, countries, and tourism. His next essay is called "The Dictator and Alicia Alonso". He is an expert on foreign affairs. Alejandro is the first author who has published a world-book encyclopedia in Latin America. He admires Frida Kahlo (Mexican painter), Jose Gamarra (former president of the Bolivian Olympic Committee,1970- 1982), Hillary Clinton (ex-First Lady of the USA), and Jimmy Carter (former President of the USA). Alejandro said: "The person who I admire the most is Jose Gamarra. He devoted his professional and personal life to sport. Jose played an important role in the promotion of Olympism in Bolivia -it is one of the Third World`s poorest countries- and Latin America. His biography is interesting". The sportspeople he most admire is Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman. "This African-American sportswoman is my idol... "

Stuhrling Original: A Truly Luxurious Timepiece

The watch a discerning man or woman chooses to wear says a lot about them: their sense of style, priorities, attention to deal and taste. A good watch can boast classic design elements with a hint of the owner’s personality, accurate certifiable movement and impeccable craftsmanship. When it’s time to add another classic piece to your watch collection, consider one of the truly luxurious models offered by Stuhrling Original.

Boasting a time-honored and internationally respected brand name, Stuhrling has been painstakingly crafting exceptionally handsome timepieces in the Swiss tradition for more than a century. From the humble roots of its founder, Max Stuhrling in the 1800’s to the modern era, Stuhrling has been offering truly first-rate watches that are revered for their classic style as well as their impeccable construction and accuracy worldwide.

Stuhrling Original Men's Legacy Retrograde GMT Stainless Steel Watch

An exceptionally handsome yet practical timepiece that speaks volumes with its simplicity of design and classic vignette, the Men’s Legacy Retrograde GMT Stainless Steel Watch is sure to make an impression where ever an impression is needed. Beginning with the watch’s striking mother of pearl overlay dial, available in gray, white or light blue, you’ll immediately notice the retrograde scale that keeps track of Greenwich Mean Time with Arabic numerals at the even hours from 2 to 24. Above the scale is printed, just a bit cheekily, “Home Time.” The remainder of the face features Arabic numerals at all hours except where home time is kept, 5, 6 and 7 o’clock, a small date window left of 3 o’clock and Stuhrling’s logo just north of center.

This tasteful face is protected under Krysterna Crystal and enclosed within a polished silver-tone stainless steel bezel and case. The matching bracelet features alternating brushed and polished links and closes with a deployant push button clasp. The Legacy’s movement is Japanese Citizen Quartz.

Stuhrling Original Men's Gen-X Pro Quartz Bracelet Watch

An exceedingly modern piece of art built for modern men, Stuhrling Original’s Gen-X Pro watch offers a surprising and satisfying departure from classic styles. Beginning with its complexly handsome dial, you’ll notice the retrograde day scale that stretches in an arc between 3 and 6 o’clock and indicates the day with a simple copper-tone hand.

On a rose-tone cut-out style background between 12 and 9 o’clock, two sub dials indicate date and the hour on a 24-hour scale. Around the edges, rose tone Arabic numerals appear at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, with markers at all other hours.

A surgical-grade stainless steel rose tone case encloses it all under Krysterna crystal and protects the watch’s Citizen JR00 Quartz movement. The bezel, available in brown or black indicates 15, 30, 45 and 60 seconds.  The stainless steel bracelet features rose-tone outer links and bezel-matching inner links and closes with a push button deployant clasp. A contemporary timepiece with classic features and craftsmanship, the Gen-X is sure to turn heads at any event or occasion.

Stuhrling Original Men's Saturnalia DT Automatic Leather Strap Watch

An endlessly classic wristwatch that commands the eye with its combination of simple design and a dial that suggests a mathematical complication, yet reeks of simple elegance, Stuhrling Original’s Saturnalia DT watch is just at home in the board room as it is at dinner. Beginning with its action-packed dial, available in white or black, you’ll first notice the unique retrograde scale just below 12 o’clock and the Stuhrling logo, marked “Power Reserve,” indicating the amount of power left in its automatic movement reserve.

On either side of the dial, level with 3 and 9 o’clock, you’ll find two dual time zone sub dials, one marked with Arabic numerals and the other with Roman numerals. The bottom third of the face features a retrograde scale indicating the date. Surrounding the face’s perimeter, small Arabic numerals read from 5 to 60 and appear at 5-minute intervals. Dot markers appear at all other minutes.

The face’s intricately crafted dial makes a brilliant contrast to the Saturnalia DT’s silver-tone coin edge bezel and push-pull crown but is suited perfectly for the classic taper black leather strap, which closes with a push button deployant clasp. The watch’s tastefully thin hands are powered by 92545 movement with 40 jewels, which winds automatically with the natural movement of the wearer’s arm throughout the day. One of Stuhrling’s standout showpieces, the Saturnalia DT indicates a supremely tasteful owner as well as it indicates the time.

Whether at work or at play, Stuhrling Original offers a complete range of classically designed wrist watches with artful flair, time-tested durability and always-accurate movement. Choose the watch that best suits your lifestyle and sense fashion and start turning some heads with an exceptional Stuhrling time piece now.

i need the best way to install a 600 watt sony xplod amp to a 1000 watt peak 500 rms legacy dvc 10 inch sub in a reg cab silverado in a truck box.

You can try parallel the voice coils. If each is 2 ohm on the sub it will result in a 1ohm load so make sure that your amp can take the load if not u will fry the amp. Parallel means hookin up + to + and - to- on the voice coils then running it to ur amp. If ur amp can't take the 1 ohm load then do the voice coils in series which means going from the amp + to the + on the sub then - amp to - sub then wire the 2 remaining coils together but make sure its one coil from each like say positive from coil 1 and negative from coil 2. If not u will cause damage to the amp. The first diagram is parallel and the 2nd one is series it all depends on the ohm ur amp can support. http://www.cardomain.com/shop/wooferwizard.pl?num_of_subs=1&impedance_of_subs=2ohm_dvc&x=119&y=12
