Here are some more information for Mpc Portable:

Whilst most of what I produce tends to be sample-free these days, I still like to keep practicing my chopping and slicing skills every now and then, plus crate digging is a long time passion of mine. Up until now, I've been using a Vestax portable turntable to sample everything I do. It's a great bit of kit, small, lightweight, battery operated and has variable speed settings, so those of you who like to speed your samples up to an Alvin and the Chipmunk style of pace (shout out to the Heatmakers) can get a feel for what's going to be hot and what's not early on. As great as it is though, the sound quality was never it's strongest point. Admittedly my analogue recording setup is a lot weaker than my digital but you really can't emphasize how important it is to get your sample recorded at the absolute best quality first time. After all, once it's recorded and chopped, you're not going to want to do it again later on down the line just because you didn't record it well.
So imagine my surprise when I was given an Ion USB Turntable this Christmas by a very thoughtful family member. It sat in it's box all Xmas day (while I ate and drank and generally didn't achieve an awful lot) but was cracked open on boxing day; and has barely been switched off since!
The unit itself comes in a nice package with lots of explanations about how to use the setup and the different inputs and outputs featured on the unit. As is normally the case with these USB toys Ion showcases the product next to a laptop but the fact is this will work brilliantly with any PC with a USB 1 or 2.0 port. It's plug in and play, Windows will install the drivers for you automatically with some audio editing software on the included CD (Audacity, a neat little audio recorder and MP3 encoder and some software for taking the pops and hiss out of recordings). Also included is a USB cable, power lead, slip mat (basic felt but does the job till I get a "Hands off my f***ing decks" one!) and a converter to let you play 45s.
So, after 5 minutes of basic setup I was ready to go. It really is easy, you plug in the USB port, switch on, load up Audacity and you're away. The first record I played to test it was a dusty old piece that had been left in someone's garage for a number of years before ending up in my collection. I was amazed. The clarity and crispness of the recording was stunning with rich strings and beautiful vocals shining through with amazing quality. A couple of tracks had unfortunately become warped and the player will struggle with these much as any turntable would but otherwise it was flawless. My next test was a 1978 recording I stole (borrowed) from my Dad's collection. Now my father, much like me is somewhat of a hoarder and keeps everything he has in mint condition, including his vinyl. This is where the player really shines, recordings sound much as I would expect they would have the day the record was bought and this great bit of kit has truly revived my love for sampling. I find a sample, chuck it into Cool Edit, then into Recycle to get my chops, load up my MPC and tap away to my heart's content.
So who would use this? Well most any music producer who wishes to incorporate vinyl (or cassette, there's a jack to allow you to run a take deck through it which works just as well!) into their work. The beauty of this is it's simplicity and quality. If you have a top of the line DJ setup in your studio you may wish to continue using that, after all this is actually nothing more than a belt drive turntable with a USB output so scratching is a no-no. But for those of us who just want to produce good music, this is a cheap, small and lightweight method of getting top quality vinyl sounds into your PC with minimum hassle. You can get one for about £120 from either of the following two stores;
So what are you waiting for? Time to get those fingers dusty again!

help please need to figure out which drumming machine is the best for my needs?
i was thinking of getting the akai xr20 for my first drumming machine, but i hate mainstream i am strictly underground head and mc pioneers and that drumming machine has mainstream samples and can be barely customized .i want a different sound so can anyone recommend a drumming machine thats portable, make my own samples, transfer samples by usb or anything of that nature. my list that i have is alesis sr18, akai mpc 500 but its too much so i'm not going to get it until i have money, and sp 404 which is the dopest i think so please help me out underground hip hop head producers i will try to keep hip hop fresh thanks
Best Drum Machine Manufacturers: Boss/Roland, Akai, Zoom, Alesis
Rolands are commercial, but great sound. Akai would be top pro gear, but expensive. Zoom are very efficient and not pricey. Alesis offer both pro and novice gear.
For a starter drum machine, I would recommend a Zoom. Simply because you can get one off ebay really cheap, and it'll teach you more about the specific features you desire in order to buy your next piece. You can always add and collect gear to form the rawest studio! I started out with a Boss DR 550, and Zoom 234. The Boss was twice the cost, but I liked the Zoom twice as much.
Also, you could sample either with vinyl, or now days they can sample any audio file via software. You even could sample your own self, or get real creative and sample various sounds to form a custom drum-kit. example: your voice for kick1, dog bark for kick2, car braking for snare, fence rattling for fills, clink two forks together for hi hat, etc... Software would give you endless opportunities.
Still, I am stuck using the Yamaha Motif ES8, and LOVE it. So that is another option, buy a sound station and programming machine. You can upload samples or tediously customize your own! But these machines are large, and expensive. Just different things fit different styles.. so you gotta find your niche.
Also, all gear is ultimately usb compatible, since there are audio cables that convert to usb. You can always check ebay for those, since your local store might not carry those.
Whatever you do... definitely keep it FRESH.
