Thanks to better technology and parts quality, lift chairs have been lasting longer than ever before. However, no matter how good the device is when leaving the factory, something is bound to break. Afterall, a Ferrari dealership still has a parts department, correct? In the same way that your car can break down or needs maintenance, your lift chair can also break down and will also need maintenance. When your lift chair breaks, where do you go to get it fixed?
If you're good with your hands, you might be surprised to know that you could fix most common lift chair problems yourself. The most common user-replaceable parts are the entire lift mechanism, the lift motor, remote control, transformer, battery, and power cord. If your lift chair needs one of these items replaced, you can save a fortune by doing the repair yourself.
For the longest time, when you needed lift chair parts the only alternative was to go straight to the manufacturer. Coming back to the car dealership analogy, how does it make you feel when you are forced to buy replacement parts directly from the manufacturer? Often times, the part costs a fortune but you're left with no alternatives. These days the situation is much different, and you the consumer have options.
You can still go straight to the manufacturer for parts, if you so choose. There are a few advantages - you get a 100% authentic part that is designed to the manufacturer's quality assurance practices. Now, pardon the pessimism, but how much you trust the manufacturer should be directly related to how long the part lasted in the first place. You'll be forced to pay manufacturer prices, which usually amounts to some 30-50% higher than the competition.
When buying from a third party vendor, you'll be faced with one of two choices: OEM parts, and OEM-quality parts. OEM parts are parts that are still made by the manufacturer, but not actually sold by the manufacturer. OEM-quality parts on the other hand are built up to OEM quality, but are not made by the manufacturer. As a general rule, OEM parts will cost more than OEM quality parts, but will perform better and last longer. However, that is not always true, and the unfortunate reality is you won't know how good the part is until you try it. Regardless of which type of part you buy, you will still save a bundle when compared to buying parts directly from the manufacturer.
If your lift chair breaks down, do not wallow in despair just yet. Repairs are possible and might not cost as much as you think - you just need to be a little handy and know where to get the parts.

Should I get OEM or Aftermarket Parts for My Motorcycle?
This is usually a difficult question to answer, and most of the time the answer is . . . “it depends.” First you have to know what you are looking for, and then get enough appropriate information to make the best decision for your particular bike.
OEM Parts
First, what are OEM parts? OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This doesn’t have to mean that the original manufacturer produced them. Many motorcycle manufacturers don’t make every part used in their bikes. They have some parts designed and produced by outside companies and then install them on their motorcycles, or sell them as OEM parts. So, OEM parts are the same as the original part used in the building of your motorcycle. A couple other bits of information about OEM parts:
- OEM parts are usually more costly than aftermarket parts.
- Performance, look, and fit of OEM parts will be the same as the original part.
- Sometimes insurance agents will tell you that OEM parts have higher quality than aftermarket parts, and therefore are the best option for replacing parts.
One more important thing to consider is the length of your warranty or parts guarantee. If you violate your warranty, you can make it void. If your warranty is valid, use only accepted parts and have them installed by authorized mechanics.
Aftermarket Parts
Manufacturers of aftermarket motorcycle parts have to apply for the right to reproduce a part. These are parts you can order to alter, or personalize your bike. Aftermarket parts should perform as well or better than OEM parts. Also after a period of time, the original bike manufacturer allows the original producer of the part to sell the part in their own packaging, usually at a good discount—this is an aftermarket OEM part.
Again, you need to make sure you know what your warranty or guarantee period is. In some cases having an aftermarket part installed by an unauthorized mechanic will void your guarantee or warranty.
If you are looking to really up the performance of your bike you will probably find them as aftermarket parts.
The main point about motorcycle parts is that you should educate yourself as much as possible, and get the right parts for your bike.

is it worth the extra money for OEM parts to fix a 2003 mustang with frontend damage or is aftermarket ok?
i had an accitent and need to replace my front bumper, headlights, fenders, and hood. the body shop told me it would cost about $2000 more to use USED OEM parts than aftermarket parts. is it worth it spending the extra money (i have to pay not insurance) to use original parts or are aftermarket parts also just as good?
If you wuld like to keep the car like new for resale then it is better to go with oem. but if you plane on keeping the car and the parts look good. Then go with an after market part. you can always cange it later. But the resale value will go down with after market parts.
