Here are some more information for Olds Pontiac:

When buying an GM second-generation FBody car, from 1970 - 1981 there are a few items to look at for authenticity, general condition and things to be expected. This guide is meant to help a buyer identify the right car for them, not to over-pay and to help spot common problems which might assist in the decision making process. This is not a guide to buying a fully restored car or collector item.
Many Camaro and Firebirds on the used market are heavily modified and often are made to look like a higher model then they actually are: plain Camaro dressed up like an RS, or Z28 or a Firebird with Trans Am or Formula parts. First look at the VIN of the car, and find an online decoder, that will tell you the model regardless of how the car looks. Do not buy car based on an owner story or that it looks like a specific or rare model. Engine size can also be determined by the VIN. This will only indicate the engine originally installed in the car, not necessarily what is in the car now.
A few quick points, big block Chevy engines have the small water host that connects the intake manifold to the water pump, small blocks do not. The physical size of the valve covers is noticeably different. The engine stamped ID on the front of the block can be decoded to show the CID. Pontiac blocks, on the side of the block in front of the drivers side motor mount is the CID. This number is actually cast into the block, such as 350, 400, 455. Oldsmobile motors in the Trans Ams and Firebirds have an oil fill pipe directly in the front part of the intake manifold. This is at least 6-8 inches tall. This is easy to spot.
Common engine oversites or miss-understandings. Later 70's cars had smaller engines to comply with emissions requirements, an FBody car with a large motor in the late seventies stock is not very common. These are mostly found in the Firebird and Trans Am, with the Olds 403 delivered and sold in California, and the Pontiac 400 sold out of state. For engines that have been swapped, be sure emissions equipment is still on the engine if that is required in your state or region. Educate yourself on the model and year you are looking at to be sure when you see an actual car for sale, you can spot a fake or possible someone trying to be deceiving.
Rust in these cars is common in a few places, look in these areas and if the rust is acceptable to you, then you know that much more. Under the trunk lid, near the hinges water will pool up and rust. The bottom of the doors, where water/salt and snow are kicked up from the tires is a common rust area. Behind the rear tires, again water, salt and snow. Under the rear window chrome trim, at the very bottom, look here or pear under the chrome. If water has gotten in the car, it will smell and the lowest point is behind the driver and passenger seats, water will puddle up and rust.
Sagging doors is a common problem and should be expected as well as broken door handles. These are normal and need to be addressed by all owners. Worn window felt on the window guides will cause the door glass to have vertical scratches in it, also common and to be expected.
Hacked up wiring harness. For some reason either radio installs, poorly placed speakers under the dash, or some equipment removed from the engine compartment will leave the harness in bad shape. Just be aware of this and ensure all key systems are functioning when you inspect the car. Things such as lights, wipers, horn, turn-signals, etc.
Obvious items for concern or that will make you look closer are drivetrain items usually. Again, know the model information is key to making a good buying decision. Some things to look for: HEI ignitions in the wrong year cars, 4 speed cars that are now automatics, non-posi rear-end in a Trans Am, miss-matched decals on a Camaro or Firebird for the year of the car. Interior parts or styles that are not correct for the year. These can all be indicators of a non-original car, valuable original parts missing, accident damage, fire or someone trying to make the car something it isn't.
Hopefully these tips have been help and there is much more FBody car information, with correct pictures and details at: http://www.fbodygallery.com.
Can GM revive its old dominance in auto industry?
General Motors Corporation (GM) (NYSE: GM), is a global automaker founded in 1908 with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. It is the world's second-largest automaker after Toyota, ranked by 2008 global unit sales. GM was the global sales leader for 77 consecutive calendar years from 1931 to 2007. It manufactures cars and trucks in 34 countries. GM employs 244,500 people around the world, and sells and services vehicles in some 140 countries. In 2008, 8.35 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling.
General Motors executive Fritz Henderson has been hard with Obama administration to restructure GM and bring it out of the recession. However all the steps being taken by the two would only help in survival. They are not building a company that is innovative. To be successful in auto industry as soon you loose the top position you should be ready to completely change all the wheels. Ford accomplished it in 1930’s through Model T and assembly line. This enabled manufacturing at ultra low cost. GM accomplished it in 1960’s through outsourcing to vendors in US and not manufacturing every component by themselves. This helped in introducing large variety of models at low cost. Toyota used lean principles in 1980’s to enable manufacturing high quality cars at low cost and finally 2000’s was the year when Toyota and Honda introduced fuel efficient and hybrid cars to leave competition behind.
The Obama administration is just trying to reduce GM cost structure making it lean and also helping it introduce cost efficient models. This might help it survive but not make it number 1. So what will be next frontier which can make GM number 1? The answer lies in fulfilling the last human dream, the dream to fly. The government should sponsor a 3-5 years project similar to what Kennedy did for launching man to moon. GM and Chrysler should be merged into one entity maybe even Ford can join. They should be provided with all the resources of NASA, US army, and Lockheed Martin to device a car that can fly.
Why would flying cars concept be successful?
I am going to assume the bright scientists of our country will make the flying cars idea feasible in real life. Assuming that lets examine the benefits of such an innovation:
Commute times: in the current world an average person wastes around 1 hr a day in traffic. Introducing flying cars would solve the traffic problems and bring efficiency to the system.
Redefine American auto sector: American cars are currently tagged as gas guzzlers which anyone can replicate compared to German cars which are are known for performance and Japanese for Quality at low cost. A car that fly can supersede all three human needs of: Quality, Cost and performance.
Environment friendly: By moving cars to air more land would be available on ground to plant trees. Also the current coal tar, asphalt and concrete that is required for building roads which cause lot of pollution will not be required any more.
The Obama administration needs to rethink their strategy whether they want to continue keeping US the number one country by its unique innovation and taking lead in ground breaking technologies or just another dying country with nothing great in hand.

Pontiac, Olds, and Buick 350's?
I'm just curious what the main differences are between a Pontiac, Olds, Buick, and Chevy 350. I know that Pontiac engines are neither small blocks or big blocks because they have the same external dimensions. So a Pontiac 350 isn't a small block. But are Olds and Buick 350 engines the same way?
Also, do Pontiac, Olds, and Buick 350's have the same performance potential as a Chevy 350? Do you know anyone who's heavily built one of those engines?
In some cases they're identical or very nearly so. Some years ago GM ran short of Buick and Pontiac blocks so subbed Chevy engines. They settled several lawsuits, from disgruntled Buick & Pontiac owners, out of court and then stated that from then on GM engines were GM engines regardless of what car line they were installed in. Depends on the year whether they are any different or not.
