Types of Headphones - What Does Circumaural Really Mean?
There are a range of ways to specify headphones, but when the majority talk about the different types, they generally mean the other ways of wearing 'phones.
Here I should debate all of the different types available and weigh up their benefits and disadvantages.
Full size headphones: Often called circumaural, these are the classic "cans". Sometimes enormous and comfy, they are going the ears giving great sound quality. You don't see them in the home as regularly any more, though some audiophiles swear by them.
In the trade, they are called supra-aural and tend to have a touch poorer sound quality than full sized 'phones but are a lot more conveyable due to their size. They are now going thru a renaissance, particularly due to the recognition of behind the head or earclip versions.
They sit directly in the listener's ear canal forming a "seal" giving great sound isolation. Like anything, they do have a drawback. Some users find them uncomfortable, especially after lengthened use, plus their wonderful sound isolation does lead to a detachment from the sounds we are used to, especially traffic!
Earphones: Earphones or earbuds are similar to in-ear headphones except they sit outside the ear canal rather than in it. They are often the cheapest type of headphones but regularly give comparatively poor sound quality. They are especially preferred now with the white wired iPod versions ( and their copies ) dominating the high street.
Earclip/behind the head headphones: Earclip and behind the head headphones are a bit of an oddity in this list. So, for example, ear pad headphones that clip over the ear are now becoming much more popular than normal over-the-head band headphones. Their recognition is quite latest and they gain a large amount of use in the "sport headphones" market.

Why does mouse stop working when I plug in headphones?
OK. While using my Sister's Fujitsu's Laptop computer,I decided to plug in my headphones to the front headphone jack. And,that's when her wireless Microsoft mouse stopped working.
You can still use the built in scroll pad,but not the wireless mouse.
Any ideas on why it's doing this?
And,how to fix it?
Using Vista,BTW.
Thanks!!!
It is a USB wireless mouse.
This is actually quite a conundrum. There is no physical connection between the audio ports and the USB ports, aside from the fact that they are attached to the same laptop. On some newer desktops, the ports are now "smart" enough to detect when things are plugged into them, passing that information to the OS and the audio software. I am assuming that you are using a USB wireless mouse.
Now, it is possible that incorrectly installed audio drivers could be sending the wrong information when something is plugged into that digital ready headphone jack. If you are using a bluetooth wireless mouse, it is also possible that the bluetooth receiver is turned off when something is plugged into that digital ready audio jack.
As a diagnostician, I would boot to an Operating system outside of Vista first.. say a Live CD of linux Mint or Kubuntu (actually BartPE would be my first choice, but I don't think you would have easy access to that)... I would make sure that the audio devices are picked up properly, make sure the wireless mouse works normally first, then see if the condition repeats... all of this to determine if the problem is hardware based, or software based. If the problem persists outside of vista, then it is most likely a hardware issue or design flaw. If the problem does NOT persist, then the problem is within Vista.
From there, it would be a matter of the results. Problem within vista? Make sure all drivers are up to date, and all settings are correct. Reinstall Vista and drivers. Problem without vista? Try a cabled USB mouse, or bring it in to a repair shop.
