When someone buys an iPod speaker dock, there is one reason, and one reason only, to want it. And that is to achieve great sound quality. Does the smart-looking PURE Digital Chronos iDock manage to achieve that? We will have to see.
But before we get to playing music on it, we have to go through the unpackaging and the setting-up stage. It would not be a lie to say that the PURE Digital Chronos iDock really impressed us with its first look. Its face has a big enough LCD blue back-lit screen. The rest of it contains a look complex enough to satisfy any tech geek. Plenty of button and sockets make the PURE Digital Chronos iDock look like an impressive piece of technology at first glance. The sides are two big speakers. The distance between them does not seem sufficient for true surround sound, but you cannot expect everything from one dock!
Apart from the front face, the body is mainly a matte-finish. Overall, the device looks pretty good. There is a slot for the iPod, of course, bang on top-center. Talk about making the iPod feel like a king! The PURE Digital Chronos iDock is like its throne.
The set-up and first usage went pretty smoothly too. Even with the number of buttons the PURE Digital Chronos iDock has, you could not expect a device that is easier to use. In fact, you can throw the manual straight out of the window. Well-labeled buttons and the huge screen ensure that you always know what you are doing.
Then we plugged in the iPod and played music. And the device failed to impress at the worst possible time. It might look good, be easy to use and have a variety of features, but like we said before, the sole reason for buying a dock is to achieve loud, good sound. The PURE Digital Chronos iDock fails to do that. Sure, the speakers are small to compromise for the small size, but we still cannot get over the relatively woeful sound the dock outputs. Even in its price range, once can find better speakers.
Ah...well, time to move on to the other features. The PURE Digital Chronos iDock performs well enough as a radio. Finding stations is pretty simple. As an alarm clock, too, the PURE Digital Chronos iDock is pretty good. There are several modes for alarms, and setting an alarm, and putting it to snooze, is a simple task. At least you will wake up to the sight of a beautiful device by your bedside. That might be euphoria enough for the first few days.
All in all, the PURE Digital Chronos iDock is not a bad device. Is it worth the £102.16 that Amazon.com is currently Asking for it? Well, it depends on what you really want. A compact, good-looking iPod dock to impress your friends? Or a great pair of speakers to impress your ears? If it is the former, then you will find few docks as good as the PURE Digital Chronos iDock. If, however, you lay a greater emphasis on the music performance, then you might want to look for other options.

Where can I get a pair sound laser speakers from?
I originally saw these on the Discovery channel and they're so much more effective than any traditional speakers. Plus, the military are customizing them to make powerful weapons.
I would love a pair of these because they are said to produce excellent sound quality even at very high volumes, regardless of how far away you are from them. At the same time anyone standing off to the side of them cannot hear anything.
This sounds like something that would be useful in the future after further development for home use. Having a speaker with that kind of directional precision, would not be useful in a home theater or stereo system. I don't see what you could possibly use it for. If you want to see some really good speakers, go to legacy-audio.com. I have a pair of Legacy Signature 3 s, with a Silver Screen center speaker. My surround speakers ( have four of them) have linaeum tweeters, which radiate 360 degrees, and are a differant brand. People who hear my system say they never heard anything so good, and keep coming back for more. The Legacy's are expensive, but well worth it, if you can afford them. Check them out.
