These are not bad speakers providing you don't expect a lot of bass from them. You may want to supplement the lower end ( bass notes ) with a powered subwoofer. "Satellite" speakers are just smaller speakers people use in their home theaters. They are usually smaller than the main speakers and they are usually hung on the wall or ceiling hence the term "satellite".
