i just bought a used vehicle that came with a portable DVD player installed. it is a pyle PLDVD86 model.?

it plays the dvd just fine, but there is no sound even if i plug headphones into it. how do i get the sound to play? also, there is a red switch beside my steering column, does this have anything to do with the DVD player and the ebrake connection or whatever the thing is that i read on some of the other posts? the movie doesn't appear to stop playing regardless of which way that switched is moved or whether it is in park or going down the road, but i have no idea what that red switch is for nor how i can get the sound to play. help anyone? does it go off the radio station or independent or radio speakers or what? i have a drop down screen that is in the middle/back of the vehicle and the DVD player itself it in my storage compartment plugged into the volt thing.
