The Power of Positive Painting method is a distillation of the concepts and ideas of Frank J. Reilly (1906-1967), whose emphasis on the effective use of values to create the illusion of form, laid the foundation for many of today's most successful representational artists and illustrators. Although he never wrote it down, many of Reilly's disciples have written books on his method and theories. Reilly was part of the lineage of illustrator/artists like Howard Pyle and NC Wyeth. The system was passed down to me through my father, internationally known portrait artist, Joseph Maniscalco. The Reilly method was an attempt to develop a common language for artists, a set of standards by which representational artists could establish a solid foundation of seeing and expressing the natural world.
In order to use color effectively we must understand its various components. All colors have a specific hue, value and chroma. Albert H. Munsell, (1858-1918) devised a system of measuring and identifying these various components of color to take the guesswork out of matching or describing a color. The Munsell system became the standard used by the Bureau of Weights and Measures for printing in the early 1900s.
Value-based painting means we are emphasizing the lightness or darkness of color over the other elements. In other words, we are not distracting ourselves with vague, poetic descriptions of color like "beige", "scarlet", "puce," or even terms like "bright orange," which are very subjective. In fact, any color can be assigned a number sequence representing its hue, value and chroma. The 12 basic hues are described simply, for example, R for red, RO for reddish orange, etc. All colors from the color wheel can be expressed by a value range from 0 to 10. There is also a scale of 0 to 18 that expresses a color's chroma, the degree it departs from neutral gray. All colors can be described with the hue, along with its numeric value/chroma. Cadmium Red out of the tube, for instance is "R 5/14," (depending upon the brand).
Cad. Red or R 5/14 is the most intense chroma possible with red. Keep in mind it is a relatively dark color, a value of 5, right in the middle of our scale. To use red in lighter passages you have to add white, which reduces its chroma.
The Power Palette is a reduction of neutrals, reds, yellows and "flesh" colors arranged by value. Keep in mind, any and all colors, in all temperatures, from our color wheel can be expressed in 10 corresponding values.
You can use the Munsell system to identify and mix the exact color you are trying to match in your subject., Ask yourself, "do I need to add more blue, red or yellow? Is it higher or lower in chroma?" and most importantly, "is it lighter or darker?" By far, the most difficult to see and most illusive aspect of color is its value. But it can be learned, like a musician learns his scales. Musicians train the ear to hear, we must train our eye to see.

One of the most essential elements of any solid car audio system is the Subwoofer. The Subwoofer is the device that provides the deep, heavy bass sound that so many people love to hear with their music. The challenge is that most automakers do not include the subwoofer as a standard part of the car stereo system - thus leaving the individual to figure out the best way to upgrade their ride.
Here are some quick tips to help you choose the perfect subwoofer for your ride!
1) Think about the type of music that you like to listen to the most. If this music heavy on the bass, then you should consider a more powerful subwoofer system.
2) Work within your budget by determining how much you can afford to pay for your subwoofer system (and then sticking to it!). If you go into debt over your car audio system, you won't enjoy it nearly as much.
3) Do you want one subwoofer or two? The number of subwoofers you place in your car depends on two key factors, the size of your ride (if you don't have a lot of interior space, you will probably want only one subwoofer) and the type of music you enjoy. Fans of classical and heavy metal music can generally get by with just a single subwoofer, while fans of hip-hop and rap or techno may choose two in order to get the richest audio experience possible.
4) Make sure the subwoofers are a good match for your speakers. Do your homework before purchasing your subwoofers to make sure that they will fit into the confines of your existing car audio speaker system.
5) Choose a durable subwoofer cone. The subwoofer cone is the device that protects your subwoofer over the years in whatever harsh conditions may come along. There are a number of different cones to choose from, each of which has a different price point. Subwoofer cone types include: kevlar, polypropylene, aluminum, and carbon fiber. Car audio experts agree that it is best to avoid paper cones due to their low durability.
6) Pick the right subwoofer size. The most common sizes of subwoofer are 8-inch, 10-inch, 12-inch and 15-inch. Again, choosing the right one has a lot to do with the type of music you enjoy listening to in your car. As a general rule, larger subwoofers produce a lower frequency (which may be ideal if you are a big fan of techno music).
7) Choose a reputable brand. While every car audio enthusiast has their favorite brands, there are a few that are preferred by critics and music lovers around the world. In particular, check out the subwoofer products made by Polk Audio, Infinity and MTX to see if they offer a system that meets your needs and your budget.
When selecting a subwoofer for your car audio system, the most important thing of all to remember is to do your homework. By researching all the different types of subwoofer systems, you will be much more likely to find the perfect fit for your car.

what monitor would best fit my car?
okay i have a 2001 jimmy and i want to put in a un dash monitor so i found three that i liked and are at a good price one was a pyle 6.4" motorized in dash monitor with am/fm tv turner and cd changer that ones 229.00.The next is a pyle audio pl tvrs 5" in-dash monitor andits 198.00.The last one in a pyle PLVIN72 7" in dash flip screen monitor and its154.99.Iam just lookin for something around this price that i can play my movies and listen to music to if u can help me please do
those are all pretty cheap. and you get what you pay for. i own a kenwood kvt-917dvd, although they dont make this one anymore it was and i think still is the best on the market. it cost 2500.00 brand new but the options it comes with are unbelievable. if you spend a couple hundred on one of those screens the sound quality will be garbage, the compatibility will be garbage. if you care about your sound then go with one of these, but if your just wanting to be cool and have a screen in your car then get the cheap stuff. be prepared to buy one every year though. it would be the best thing you did to save up for a couple more months and get a decient one.
