04 Ford Mustang
The 2004 Ford Mustang is a powerhouse that combines performance and styling in a relatively inexpensive car. Both coupe and convertible body styles are available in a wide variety of trim packages. Back for the '04 model year is the Mach 1 with it's enormous engine and sports tuned suspension. Being the original pony is impressive enough, yet the Mustang continues to set the industry standard in the class. Consumers who are new to the performance style car market and don't have enough money for an absolute luxury model should find these vehicles very rewarding.
Being that the 2004 Ford Mustang marks the model's 40th anniversary, every car is equipped with a commemoration badge on the fender. The standard engine on base models is a 3.8 liter V6 that puts out 190 horsepower and 220 foot pounds of torque. For these vehicles there is a five speed manual transmission as standard equipment and an optional 4 speed automatic. Optional equipment on base models include ABS and a traction control system.
On the inside buyers will find front cloth bucket seats as standard issue. For a little bit extra there are leather bucket seats. Coupe body styles come with a 50/50 rear seat that folds down. Other standard features include power windows/locks, AC, remote keyless entry, and intermittent wipers. The other two trim packages offered include the Deluxe and Premium, with both offered for V6 and V8 GT models. Deluxe models are equipped with a rear spoiler, power adjustable driver seats, speed control, and different interior styles. Premium models see the addition of full leather upholstery and leather wrapped steering wheels.
GT models come with a 4.6 liter V8 engine that is capable of 260 horsepower with 302 pound feet of torque. Gas pressure shocks have been added with unique configurations to optimize overall performance. Other GT features include performance wheels that are painted, ABS, traction control, and a traction lock rear axle. The five speed manual transmission offered has a tall fifth gear to allow drivers to get the best fuel economy possible. The Mach 1 edition sees the addition of a 310 horsepower V8 engine. Other features of these models include overhead-cams, sportier suspensions, black shaker hoods, lather trimmed seats, 6 CD changer, and exterior graphics.
Standard safety features include energy management retractors for the safety belts so that if slack is necessary to improve safety in a crash, it is given. As stated before ABS and traction control are optional features on basic models and standard on the upper level GTs. Overall the 2004 Ford Mustang does well in crash tests, garnering a perfect score in frontal impacts.
Fuel consumption is a another highlight of these vehicles and is very similar to many V6 equipped family sedans. Consumers can expect anywhere's from 20 mpg city to 29 mpg highway. The larger V8 engines receive the worst overall economy with highway driving remaining in the low 20 MPGs. The smaller V6 is a great choice for those who don't need all that power and want to save a little money at the pump.
Owning a Mustang can be a very rewarding experience, and should not be overlooked by buyers looking for something a little sporty, but still in the highly affordable range. A decent 2004 Ford Mustang is easy to find.

How much gear oil goes in a 9" inch Ford rear end?
It's out of a '70 Mustang Mach 1
This third member does not have a fill hole.
My manual calls for "5 pints", IE 2 and a half quarts. If you have traction-loc then call it 2 quarts plus a tube of friction modifier. If the rearend is new/rebuilt or getting a replacement differential it will hold 5 pints. If it is just having it's oil changed then almost a pint will still be in there, so 2 quarts.
1967 and earlier rears had filler plugs on the rear housing, later ones had them on the differential. Many times over the years has someone mated a "late" housing to an "early" differential and discovered they had no fill hole. And then there were lucky folks who swapped the other way around and ended up with two fill holes.
The old racer's trick to fill one of these was to jack up one side of the car, pull the axle and just pour the lube down the axle tube. Put the axle back in, etc, and you're good to go.
