Transmission Rebuild?
I have a 1984 Suburban that has the 6.2 Diesel and 700R4 Trans.
My Trans quit on me, and I have decided that i am going to rebuild it myself.
Here's the deal. I am a quick learner, and mechanicly inclined, I am currently in school at a local technical college for Automotive Service Technology. I know my way around cars pretty well, but I am still learning alot. I have always been leary of Automatic trans. repair, and this is a big step for me to attemp this. I have been told that it is not too hard if you can take your time and follow VERY precise directions. I have until June to finish this, and plan on really taking my time, I have the tools or access to the tools needed, my question is this. Is it reasonably possible for someone who is not trained to sucsusfully rebuild an Auto trans if great time and care is taken to follow instruction precisely?
I would appreciate input from people who are expirenced in rebuilding Auto trans., but all input is welcome.
that's a really big step man even for me, it takes a few special tools to do this with ,that's the one thing i try and stay way from, id advise you to have a little more training before you tackle an automatic,its possible you could do it,but you,ll need a really good manual on transmissions,and also a few specialty tools,all i can say is good luck,i have done them before ,but that's one job i prefer to leave to a transmission mechanic,their more qualified to do this,good luck.
