Here are some more information for Receiver Antenna:

You don't have to settle for over-the-air TV and radio while at sea. Now you can have a marine satellite TV system that allows you to watch satellite TV, listen to satellite radio, and even go online.
Marine Satellite TV Antenna
Marine satellite TV antennas capture and track the signal being broadcast from a satellite. The best antennas feature:
* Dual LNB (low-noise block) converter - allows you to watch two separate programs on two TVs.
* Fast search algorithm - for fast satellite identification and acquisition.
* Dynamic Tilting - adjusts the antenna to track a satellite in extreme weather conditions.
Marine antennas vary in size from 14.5" in diameter to 24" in diameter, and weigh around 30 pounds.
Marine satellite TV antennas cost anywhere from $500 for a fixed mount antenna to more than $7,000 for a top-of-the-line antenna/receiver combo with all the bells and whistles.
To get a better idea about which marine satellite TV antenna would be best for your particular situation, do an Internet search for "marine satellite TV antennas" or call your local marine retailer.
When you know which antenna you want, click on the Froogle shopping comparison website - froogle.google.com - to compare prices. Here you'll see all the marine satellite TV antennas listed by price and get more product information by clicking on a particular store's website link.
Marine Satellite TV System
In addition to an antenna, a marine satellite TV system consists of a receiver to decode the satellite signal and send it to a TV.
You can get self-contained units that consist of an antenna and receiver, or you can get an antenna and purchase a separate receiver or get one free from DISH Network or DIRECTV (click on links below for info).
Satellite TV Programming
There are two major satellite TV providers - DISH Network and DIRECTV.
DISH Network has 350 channels of satellite TV programs, movie channels, sports packages, Sirius satellite radio, news and weather channels, and pay-per-view programs. Their prices start at $19.99 for 40 channels, and they will give you a free dish and up to four free receivers when you subscribe to their service.
DIRECTV has 250 channels of satellite TV programs, sports packages, movie channels, XM radio, news and weather, plus pay-per-view programs. Their programming starts at $41.99 for 155 channels, and they too will give you a free dish and four free receivers when you subscribe to their service.
Note: Click on the links below for more information on satellite TV programming.
Bottom Line
If you want all the comforts of home while at sea, then a marine satellite TV system is something you should consider. They're relatively easy to install, can be set up on almost any size boat, and will give you years of enjoyment.

Three Options You Can Choose From To Receive High Definition
I purchased an HDTV...now what? If you own a high definition television you can get high definition images! There are 3 options accessible to you: over-the-air signals, cable or satellite. Over-the-air signals... remember the old relic antennas on all the roofs back in a day.
Well consider it or not they are coming back in style! Only these are the hd antenna type that are specially designed to recognize signals that are digital and encode in HD. Another large advantage over this antenna compared to the old analog is with and high definition antenna you will not get ghosting or interference.
This is because the communication now will be in a digital format. So now you either get the signal or you don't! That's the beauty of digital. Over-the-air (OTA) signals are free to get. The only out of pocket cost would be for the hdtv antenna itself needed to receive them.
To receive HD programing from your cable/satellite provider you would have to agree to their High def package. Be conscious though that this subscription is not free. The company might demand a minimum length of service and generally charge an additional fee to obtain your local hi def channels.
Does a HDTV mean I'm watching high definition?
No. Just owning a high definition television is the premiere step in watching HD content. Does your TV have a HD receiver? The tuner will either be built into the tv or an outer set-top box is required.
The set-top boxes can be bought in nearly any electronics warehouse, but most will originate from your cable or satellite server. Eventually you'll either have to buy to a package or buy an antenna for over-the-air (OTA) reception.
Once you have all of these requirements in order then it is up to you to ascertain an HD broadcast to get started watching hd programing. What do all the numbers mean?
HDTV programing is encoded with a type of resolution: 720p, 1080i or 1080p. The numbers stand for the amount of lines embedded within the signal. The letter signifies the type of scan your TV uses to display the image.
The 'i' means interlaced and the 'p' means progressive. HDTV is the highest form of digital television. It has an aspect ratio the same as a film theater screen.
This probably is the number one reason this format has become much a hit. The additional is the quality (resolution). HDTV is the highest accessible digital source to date. Savor the new digital upcoming!

Can you use speaker wire for an antenna for Sony receiver?
Bought a sony stereo system from a garage sale and it didn't come with an antenna. A guy at Wal-Mart told me that speaker wire would work. I'm not so sure...
Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, how do I do it?
Sure will.:-)
Antennas are just conductors , speaker wire also is a conductor.
If it is just to replace a single broken telescopic whip you can cut a length of wire about 2 or 3 feet long and connect that to the antenna connection.
If the receiver has special antenna requirements then its not so simple to describe here , but still , the speaker cable will do the trick.
