Music has always played a major part of my life, as from the earliest age I can remember classical music constantly playing in our home. Dad had a lot of 78s and an electric player which required frequent needle changes. In fact I used to watch him change them religiously every eight plays - not something he would let anyone else do!!

As children, we used to give singing recitals - especially at Christmas times!! I am grateful for the exposure our parents gave us to music - even if dad was a bit single minded when, in the late 50's my brother Kenneth, bought home a recording of a new rock-n-roll singer called Buddy Holly I think dad thought it was not proper music and that the record couldn't possibly be up to the same standard as his Beethoven or Mozart recordings!!

He used to have constant discussions with Kenneth about playing them on his' radiogram. And as for the Beatles and Rolling Stones records I wanted to play a few years later - no comment!!

Both my two brothers were taught to play classical music on the piano by our Aunty Win. For myself; it was 1962 and I was far too interested in my Uncle Frank's brand new MGB roadster to concentrate - try as my mum did to encourage me!!

My eldest brother, Robert, turned out to be a highly accomplished musician - playing the French horn professionally for many years. Kenneth, my other brother, in later years, would get all his beer bought for him in the NAFFI bar, bashing out songs when we had a session - mind you he always had a bad head the next day!

After I left home and joined the British Armed Forces, I have to say my mates were not too happy about Grieg being played in the barrack room. Same problem as my dad had - different music. So I had to use earphones to listen to him. But when 'The Who' came on - now, that was a different story - then we used to get into trouble with the Duty Sergeant for playing the music too loud!!

Anyway, over the years, I have developed a passion for all types of music and my collection of vinyl records has now grown to include Amadeus Mozart through to Led Zeppelin. But, I guess if I had to pick just one piece of music to take to that desert island it would have to be:

Mozart's Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra No1 in F Minor, Op 73

My favourite recording of this outstanding piece: (only one of several!)

Deutshe Grammophon 136550 SLPEM (stereo - 1968) Karl Leister, Clarinet, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rafael Kubelik.

I bought this recording whilst stationed in Germany in 1970 - since then I have obtained other fine recordings of the Concerto, but I find Karl Leister's interpretation of the Adagio(in particular) perfectly captures Mozart's objective of writing the most profoundly expressive movement for a solo instrument.

I never fail to be moved by it.

Mercedes Benz 450sl Parts Make Driving a Breeze

Looking slick while riding on a two-seater convertible while cruising along Sunset Boulevard could really make heads turn. But what more if you are revving up with a sporty yet luxurious looking roofless ride such as the Mercedes Benz 450E? Surely, others would drool over that picture. And almost nothing could top that kind of lavishness. Because you got with you on the steering wheel of a Mercedes Benz 450SL what it takes to stand-out.

The bold look says it is built for the driven. With the foot flooring the gas pedal, you could feel the animal of a performance waiting to be unleashed. And with the grill boasting of that patented large Mercedes Benz emblem, passers-by will surely venerate the car with high regard as the roadster is equipped with nothing but genuine, high-quality Mercedes Benz 450SL parts and accessories. Utter passion for excellence, so to speak.

The Mercedes Benz 450SL belongs to the SL-Class of Mercedes Benz line, with the abbreviation “SL” meant as “sport light,” or in German, “sport leicht.” Cars of the open SL-Class were available as a coupe with a removable hardtop or as a roadster with convertible soft top or with both tops. This series of luxury vehicles had its maiden appearance on the 1954 300SL 'Gullwing' so named because of its upward-opening passenger doors. Together with the SLC-Class, the SL-Class is roofed under the R107 series of the Mercedes Benz. This refers to the name of the series of the Mercedes Benz cars released from 1972 to 1989. The R107 adopted the chassis components of the mid-sized Mercedes Benz W114 model. With the “R” in R107 being “reihe,” or series, it took on the 107 chassis model. This includes other models like the 350 SL, 380 SL and the 560 SL. The Mercedes Benz 450 SL had its heyday of production until 1980. Its front and rear bumpers extended to 8 inches to comply with the United States safety regulations.

The 107 chassis had the longest run of any Mercedes chassis, which spanned 18 years from 1971 to 1989. Some 237,000 107 chassis SL's were built around that time. About two thirds were sold in the United States. These 107 cars are larger, heavier and more costly than the previous generation W113 cars.

An elongated version of the Mercedes Benz 450SL (or R107) is the Mercedes Benz C107, or most commonly known as the SLC. It also utilizes the W114 chassis model with a larger engine and styling very much like the Mercedes Benz 450SL counterpart. There were 7,000 units sold with the United States having the major share of the pie.

A major factor to the success of this roadster model is its high-quality Mercedes Benz 450SL parts and accessories. They serve as building blocks to make the overall performance of the Mercedes Benz 450SL sleek as silk. Some Mercedes Benz 450SL parts that brings forth comfort and leisure include power steering, power windows, power door locks, leather interior, cassette player, AM/FM Stereo, hard top, convertible seats, automatic transmission, among others.

These Mercedes Benz 450SL parts and accessories are not run-of-the-mill type of components. They are skillfully crafted and scientifically engineered to give nothing but the best customer satisfaction it can provide. Excellence is what they are after. And excellence, it is, that they are making.

Kenwood CD Player help!!!!?

Hi there! I have just got a smart roadster light and it has a kenwood KDC 3027 stereo....only trouble is, the player keeps spitting out the cd every time I start the car, then takes ages for it to accept it back....does anyone know why this is? Or how to fix it? I don;t have the manual and the only ones I can find online are in french! he he!
If someone could help that'd be great!
Xxx
Aaaah, thank's guys, ;-) I found the manual, and yeah, Keith you are right, the only reason it gives for ejecting a CD is a dirty disk...but the disk isn't dirty, it just literally spits it out every time I start the car. ;-( hey ho, I guess I'll just have to force it back in there every time I get in the car!!! Annoying when you keep listening to the first track again and again and again. he he! Cheers again guys!

It may be you laser inside the head unit that needs cleaning.
You can buy cleaners, they are like cds but have little brushes on. You just put it in and play as it were a normal cd. It will tell you when to remove it.

Honda Si fun-to-drive factor unbeatable
Honda is applauded for attaching its "Si" designation to its Civic sedan. There are more than a few auto enthusiasts who wish that Honda would bring the European Civic hatchback to North America.
