Fire! Ready! Aim!

In 1993, I began to write my first book, Black Belt Management. I only had a GED for high school and had never excelled at writing nor did I particularly enjoy the process like I do now. Writing that book was hard work. From the time I had the idea to the time the book was printed was nine-months. Fortunately, the book sold so well I was able to pay my house off in full with two-years. Had I, like so many others, simply had an idea for a book or had spent that nine months researching how to write a book, I doubt that would have ever happened.

Because of the success of the book, I was able to parlay that into creating the martial arts industry’s first professional trade association and trade journal. That generated over $30 million over the next decade and made me a millionaire. I had no idea what a professional association was nor had I ever published a magazine before. I didn’t let that slow me down.

I pulled the trigger on the association by sending out 700 sample packages to martial arts school owners in December 1993. As a member, each school would get a physical package from me each month with a camera ready ad they could use, audio and video seminars and other items to help them grow their school. I didn’t have an office or staff in place, but rather than wait until everything was in place, I pulled the trigger. 125 schools joined at $99 per month in the next 30-days. At its peak, the association had over 2,000 schools paying $99. My magazine had a circulation of over 25,000 and my convention was the largest in the industry.

Like the three-second rule, had I really sat down and analyzed this, I would have never launched. The magazine’s first issue almost broke me. I never ran the numbers on it, but knew in my heart the industry needed a quality journal and that advertisers would step up to support it and they did. I had no formal training in any area of running these businesses, but pulled the trigger on them so fast I never sat down to let self-doubt talk me out of them.

As another example, I became a certified hypnotist in November. Within 30-days I started writing a book that profiled the top hypnotists here and in the UK. That immediately put me in contact with the best of the best. By interviewing each of them on how they built their practice and create wealth in this unusual profession, I became friends with the top hypnotists in the world. One of them, Dr. Will Horton, who is also a black belt, offered to co-write a leadership book with me that would combine the mental skills of the martial arts with the power of hypnosis.

Part of my strategy in writing the book was to find out how I could best integrate hypnosis into my professional life. I didn’t want to depend on one-on-one sessions. As much as I enjoy them, it’s trading time for money and that’s a slow road to wealth. I discovered that hypnosis gave me a unique element that, combined with my martial arts background and success in business, would provide me with the perfect platform to expand my professional speaking career.

Once I realized that, I started playing with titles for seminars and books. Before drifting off to sleep, I made a list of what I thought would go into the table of contents, which helped me formulate the content. The next morning I pulled the trigger and wrote two chapters and committed to a chapter a day until it was done. Black Belt Management took nine months to write.  My latest book, The Impostor Syndrome, took four weeks to write. From being certified in hypnosis to writing the hypnosis book until completing The Impostor Syndrome has been just under three months. That is Fire-Ready-Aim in action. Attack! Attack! Attack!

A key mind-set to making this strategy work is that you are seeking progress, not perfection. Like a shark you want to keep moving forward towards improving your life and achieving your goal. Measure your success on the progress you’ve made. You will have set backs and absolute failures, but you will still be further along to improving your life that if you didn’t do anything.

Assuming I buy these three things, here are my questions.

Currently I have a CDA 9851, I want HD, so would this deck fit in my car? (Honda accord 91 ex)

Then, how would I setup the sub with the amp? The sub is Dual 4ohm VC, so would I set it up at 500 watt RMS x2 at 2ohms? Or, 180watts bridged x2 at 4ohms? Or something different?

I am not an expert clearly, but I can figure it out. I just need the best option so I can mount and hook up everything accordingly.

Thanks

500 watts x 1 at 2 ohms
deck is single din it should fit in all cars
