High bidder's choice at an auction is like that nursery rhyme about the little girl with the curl. "There was a little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead; when she was good, she was very, very good, and when she was bad she was horrid."

If you are an experienced auction goer, that's how you feel about high bidder's choice. Either you really like it or you really hate it. There doesn't seem to be any in-between.

High bidder's choice is a bidding option offered by a number of auction houses. It has its place and can be effective in certain situations. However some auction houses have a tendency to get carried away and they either use it too much or use it on the wrong items. The theory behind high bidder's choice is to make the house and the consignors more money. When done properly, it can increase an auction house's bottom line but when used incorrectly, it can be a losing proposition.

A single lot that contains numerous pieces may be sold to any number of bidders through high bidder's choice. The pieces within such a lot are usually similar in nature but do not have to be duplicates of each other. The auctioneer will take bids on just one piece. Once the bidding is over, the high bidder will get to choose which of the pieces he wants as well how many.

If he wants, the high bidder can elect to take all the pieces in the lot. If that is the case, the bid amount is then multiplied times the total number of pieces to determine the purchase price for the entire lot. The high bidder could also elect to just take one or two of the pieces. The remaining pieces would then be opened up to another round of bidding. The next person to win the bid would have the opportunity to take as many of the remaining pieces as he wants times his high bid. This would continue until all of the pieces from that lot are sold.

High bidder's choice can definitely make the auction house and the consignor more money than if the entire lot were sold for one price. The more bidders that participate in the bidding, the higher the final selling price. Some people might be interested in a specific piece but would not want to purchase all of them and would therefore not bid.

This method of selling is a good one as long as the size of the lot is reasonable. For example, it would only take a few minutes to sell a lot of a dozen pieces this way. However, to sell a six hundred-piece lot using high bidder's choice is quite another matter. Unless the first one or two bidders buy the entire quantity, a six hundred-piece lot could drag on for quite sometime - possibly as long as forty-five minutes. There are auction houses that do sell large lots like this.

An auction house should not spend that kind of time selling something that is only of interest to three or four people. What is the rest of the audience supposed to do while this is going on? A compromise might be to offer high bidder's choice a certain number of times and then sell the balance to one bidder for one money.

Auction houses have to realize that they can only hold their audience's attention for so long, which is why the momentum of an auction is so important. Time is of the essence. By the end of an auction less than half of the audience is still there. When the house wastes too much time on a single lot, then it costs them and their consignors money later in the sale. The items being sold near the end of the auction will most likely bring a lot less money than they would have otherwise. It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

High bidder's choice is fine as long as it is only used a few times and only used on reasonably sized lots. To do otherwise jeopardizes the make-up of the auction and will accomplish nothing other than to send customers running from the building in total frustration.

Single Serving Coffee Brewers - Making Great Tasting Coffee One Cup At A Time

Can you think of a better time to enjoy a fresh brewed cup of coffee than during breakfast or after having a mouth watering desert after dinner?  I'm guessing you're having a pretty tough time trying to think of better opportunities for doing so.  With the invention of the single serve brewer comes the ability to enjoy great tasting coffee in a few short moments without having to get it at a coffee shop.  They're so easy to use, and you can enjoy the great tasting coffee that they create in your very own home.

Why are the single serve coffee brewers becoming so popular for many that had become so used to ordinary coffee makers?  One of the more popular producers of coffee makers conducted a survey on this matter and came out with the following results:  It was revealed that around 88 percent of the consumers that purchased single serve brewers loved that fact that they could make a cup of coffee in about one minute.

One of the huge benefits of these coffee makers is that you can make different types of coffee every time, so if someone wants decaf or if someone wants caffeinated coffee, then you can make both types in a very short period of time.  You can also have a variety of coffee flavors on hand at any time so that everyone can enjoy a cup of coffee with the flavor that they enjoy the most.  This saves on clean up, as well as wasted coffee that results from making too much of one kind.  There is a huge time savings benefit with single serve coffee brewers in that you can avoid dealing with brewing times of other more traditional coffee makers as well as clean up time that is required with those types of makers.  If you love the great tasting flavor that is provided by coffee grinders or event antique coffee grinders but don't want to have to spend the time making the coffee grounds, then you'll also enjoy the time savings benefit that these brewers provide.

It was also found that 90 percent of those that purchased the single serve brewer loved the fact that there is minimal need for measuring out coffee grounds and that there is very little cleaning that has to be done.  Because you don't have to spend as much time making the coffee, you have more time to take care of other tasks that you may have on your agenda.

Finally, it was discovered that 65 percent of those that purchased the single serve brewer were determined to buy only quality products when shopping for coffee pods that they would be using when making their own coffee.  Many consumers prefer the pods that Maxwell House have to offer because they are made with 100 percent Arabica beans and have harvested and selected with care for the purpose of filling the coffee pods that are sold.  These types of coffee pods provide the maximum in freshness and coffee flavor and aroma, which is another big reason for their rising popularity.

The coffee pods that you find in your local grocery store will generally fit into most single serve brewers so you can shop for as many as you want so you can always enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee each and every time.  If you're looking to enjoy a great tasting cup of coffee and save a little time during the process of making coffee, then a single serving brewer might just be the best option for you.

Why is it illegal to sell single cigarettes but not cigars?

I'm trying to quit smoking and I find it really annoying I can't buy single cigarettes occasionally to help wean myself off, I have to chew Nicorette or use a patch i've tried both and they have annoying side effects (heart palpitations, headache, stomach pain, restlessness) so im curious if they actually have a good reason for it.

Some states still allow it, but there are fewer and fewer.

Rather than a cigarette, next time you have a craving, buy a pack of snus. I use snus when I have to go 12 or so hours without a cigarette and it keeps me from that uncontrollable craving.

It is a no spit oral tobacco - comes in a tiny little pouch you put in your mouth. After about 20 minutes you take it back out and the urge is gone. If you use the snus for just the cravings, you will be quit in no time.

SMC Recordings Lands Major Act Signing The Pack
adding to its already stellar roster. Their most recent signee is former Jive Records act, The Pack.
