The information obtained allows them to use your credit card number to order items online, or in other places where the card is not required to be present.
A fourth way that identity theft is accomplished is through theft of your mail, either mail that you have put out for the postal worker or mail that has been delivered to your house. Through examination of your mail, the identity thief may find outgoing checks to pay utility bills or incoming bank statements or new bills. Each of these may include sufficient information to allow the identity thief to assume your identity.
The fifth way that identity theft is accomplished is simple burglary, such as breaking into your house or even your car. Your car registration and insurance information are usually left in the car and contain the information a skilled identity thief needs to gain access to your identity. The theft of your stereo or GPS navigation system may be taken to cover the real motive for the break-in.

Just had a new battery fitted in my citroen saxo, now asking me to insert the four pin anti-theft code?
Does anyone know where i might find this apart taking car to citroen and having to pay for the privelage??

It should be written down in the owners handbook or on a separate card in the wallet load of bumf that came with the car.
If you don't have this then yes, the only thing you can do is go to a Citroën dealer or try one of those dodgy places that does stereo recodes.
