British are very fond of camping and rate it highly for time passing needs. Ask any UK national about their favorite place for camping and invariably most of them will single out Devon any day. Devon boasts of over 150 camping sites and it is rare for one to not succeed in finding his/her favorite spot.

Most of these camping sites surround the major cities, however, once you go further down the countryside, there are several other breathtaking camping spots readily available.

If you are crazy about hiking and always looked for a camping location that could provide you the best of both camping and hiking then Dartmoor National park should not missed while going camping in Devon. This park situated around 213 miles southwest of London and 13 miles in the west direction from Exeter features some very beautiful vistas, amazingly looking purple heather and many water sources. These all make great visits during your camping expedition.

If camping in Devon and that too in Dartmoor National park, you should be aware of the famous Dartmoor ponies that wander around the landscape freely and also the spiny shrubs that can turn harmful. Only the seasoned hikers are advised to venture around the landscape alone.

Another point that you must keep in mind while camping in Dartmoor National Park is that you must not pull your car off the road and into the park anywhere you like. Devon authorities suggest that you are allowed to sleep at night only in your vehicles and that too only at certain designated places in the park.

If you try to be too clever in this regard, you can be pulled-up by the park rangers or the local police for committing an offence. You may even be fined a steep $160 for violating the local ordinance.

In case you are a member of a caravan, you must keep in mind that Dartmoor roads are very steep and winding at places. The caravan members are prohibited to drive the caravan over couple of bridges in the park. These are the ones located on the Two Bridges Road and the Ashburton.

As regards the backpack camping, Devon authorities are more generous and unless you are trespassing into the privately owned stretches of land and causing some sort of pollution or damage to the area, they will allow you to enjoy your camping experience.

You must also take care that you are not camping within any walls, in sight of any dwellings or house, close to the farmlands, besides the road, anywhere close to the road or in any demarcated area that is included in the reservoir catchment system. It is advisable to refer a detailed map to be able to locate the best camping spot that causes no inconvenience to the locals or the police in Devon.

Glacier National Park 100th Year Anniversary

Glacier National Park, located in northwest Montana, will soon celebrate its 100th year anniversary in 2010. The centennial celebration is currently keeping prospective visitors and park visitors of the past updated with a website, blog, and events calendar dedicated solely to the upcoming centennial. According to the Glacier National Park Centennial website, the celebration calls for a time of "celebration, inspiration, and engagement" all while becoming informed on the rich history the Montana national park has to offer.

While the park may be celebrating its 100th official year, archaeologists have evidence of use of the national park as much as 10,000 years ago. Several Native American tribes, including the Salish, Kootenai, and Blackfeet, inhabited the area when the first European settlers first explored this area. During the 1800s, settlers found value in the land because it could be mined for minerals. However, people also began to take note of the stunning scenery and value it had as a natural place of beauty as well. George Bird Grinnell, one of the early explorers of the area, worked to establish the creation of a national park. On May 11, 1910, President William Taft established Glacier National Park, making it the 10th national park in the country.

Several park visitors began coming to Glacier National Park, creating the need for trails, roadways, hotels, and lodges. The Going-to-the-Sun Road, one of the most popular scenic roadways, was established as a result of the demand for means to travel throughout the park. This road is now considered a National Historic Landmark as well as a National Engineering Landmark. Those looking to share individual stories about Glacier National Park can do so by sending their story to the Glacier National Park staff on the centennial website. A collective timeline is being constructed for all to view online.

The team who will bring Glacier National Park's centennial celebration to life encourages visitor involvement. Becoming an advocate and telling friends and family about the celebration is one simple participation suggestion. Interested parties can also sign up to host an event or program and apply to use the Glacier National Park centennial logo in other publications or websites. Donations to the national park are always appreciated as well.

Glacier National Park offers an array of adventures for the outdoor enthusiast. Park visitors have many activities to choose from. Those who venture to Glacier National Park can choose adventures including backpacking and hiking, horseback riding, camping, fishing, golfing, or relaxing and staying at a resort or lodge. Visitors may also wish to enjoy a boat tour, bus tour, or ranger-led walk. While Glacier National Park is open every day of the year, winter weather does tend to affect whether a visitor facility stays open. In general, most facilities are open from May until early September. Glacier National Park covers about 1.4 million acres of wildlife preserves. The Glacier National Park Centennial is simply one reason to celebrate the park's rich history, beautiful scenery and exquisite sights.

How do you compare the following vans?

Dodge Caravan, Ford WinStar, Cheverolet Venture, Pontiac Montana, and other US vans. 2002 or later models.

Personally, I would go with a General Motors Vehicle.. just because I have always had really good experiences with them. The Ford Windstar has caused many people many problems. I would just stay away from them. I have nothing against the Dodge Caravans though. They are very nice vans for the money and you get decent gas mileage. The Chevrolet Ventures are nice, reliable vans but don't have the style that I like from the caravan - same with the Montana (same body). I know I said go with a GM Van, but out of these choices, I like the Caravan. Maybe look at the Chrysler Town & Country's too. I hope this helped you.. Good Luck.

With Graduation Series, NPR’s Anecdotes Tell Only Part of the Story
NPR is marking graduation season with a series on recent grads and “the frustrations and fears they face as they set out in search of work.” But while these sketches are rich in detail, they suffer from that unfortunate journalism habit of looking for anecdotes in places where we’re comfortable , among wannabe writers and college journalism departments.
