I have a three year old Acer AST 160 computer. It came with 512 MB of ram and an AMD 3200+ processor. The OS is Windows XP. The machine is one of several at my Texas insurance and mortgage business. It has recently become used more frequently but ran very slowly.
With a little work and some upgrades the computer now runs much faster.
The first thing I did was to go to the control panel, add/remove programs section, and deleted all the programs that were not in use. Then I downloaded CCleaner (ask Google) and ran the cleanup and registry repair utilities. CCleaner also has an option to delete unused programs from the startup menu. (Be careful not to delete anything needed.) CCleaner is free and quite effective. After that I used XP's accessory/tools cleanup and defrag utilities.
Next I downloaded the free version of AVG (ask Google) and used it to scan and remove virus's. So far no money was spent and the computer was running about 50% faster.
For upgrades I decided to add 1 GB of memory. I found this online for about $35. (Ask Google...my solution to most anything) It is important to get a chip that is compatible with your machine. However ram is very simple to install. You just open the case, push the chip into a slot, close the case and that's it! (Turn off the power please when the case is open.)That made the machine run noticeably faster.
My last upgrade was to install a graphic card. The card I selected is a ZOTAC 9400GT on sale for $39.99 or $29.99 after rebate. My machine has a PCI Express slot and the card was for a PCI 2 slot. However I found some online articles that indicated PCI 2 cards would work fine in a PCI 1 slot....and it did. Again it was a simple install. Just push the card into the slot, connect the monitor to the card, turn the machine on, insert the CD into the drive, and follow the prompts. In my opinion the card is not sufficient for hard core gaming. However it takes a load off the processor, runs windows faster, and speeds up anything to do with graphics. This card is a definite upgrade from the factory GeForce 6100 graphics chip.
Now the machine runs much faster and is very useable for business purposes. For a small time and money investment I expect to get another year or two of use from the computer.

Very happy with the purchase, ordered Monday AM, paid a little extra to ship by Fedex, got here (Orlando) Wednesday AM. plugged in t-mobile sims, worked right out of the box. The signal reception is not the greatest, but it is acceptable. Video player - used MPEG4, no problem. MP3 player works, nothing fancy. Took it to work, one of the guys recognized that the power input looked like his old samsung phone. Got his old cables, wall power charger and car charger worked fine, but samsung data cable did not work. Good to know for buying backup cables. Have not configured for GSM/GPRS, but wifi is working great, no intent on paying for an overpriced data plan. All in all, great phone for the price, especially for a t-mobile customer, when the closest comparable phone to this is the dash (which I actually replaced with this) and that goes for 150+, and the screen on this is much better. Very impressed with Chinavasion. Only reason no 5 star, originally ordered Odyessy, and then told it was out of stock so had to switch to Voyager. Other than that hiccup, no problems. I advise Fedex for the shipping.

Lg Voyager Text receiving bug?
My phone seems bugged all of a sudden.. 2 text msg's from the same person keep repeating themselves. I've deleted my inbox, everything..even contacts..factory restore..these 2 text msg's just keep coming after being deleted..i try sending a txt to my cell and when i do it's one of those two txt that i receive, nothing will reach my phone if the inbox is filled with those two txts. I'm no where by a Bell store.
I have ran into issues where I would constantly receive duplicate texts from people, but it eventually just stopped. I would suggest that you contact your carrier by phone and see what they suggest. It very well could be an issue with the person phone that sent you the original messages.
