Need help setting up home theatre system?
I just bought one of those Sony Bravia Blue Ray theatre system with the 4 remote speakers, front speaker and sub woofer. I have cable attached to my HD T.V. I've also attached the Blue Ray to the T.V with a HDMI cable, so the Blue ray's picture and sound are working, but only when you watch the Blue Ray, not cable T.V. The Blue Ray isn't attached to the Cable, so I can't listen to Cable T.V with the surround sound. Do I just buy a set of audio cables to attached from the Blue Ray to the audio outlet on the CABLE BOX (since its already connected to the T.V), or do I also have to connect the Blue Ray audio to the T.V, with a second set of wires.?
Your cable set-top box should have a digital audio output jack on it. It could be COAX (RCA style connector) or OPTICAL (called TOSLink by Sony). Your surround sound system will have an input for one of these, or both as either CABLE or AUX. Connect the proper cable from your cable set-top box to your surround sound system.
When you watch cable and want surround sound, turn on the surround system, switch to the input you ran the cable from your set-top box to, and turn down the sound on your TV.
